Anyone know of one? Must be DD (but only 2miles each way)

Minimal to no rust...

would complete the garage (76 Bronco, Jeep, Ford)

Dude-

sorry but, ha!

and what do you expect to pay for such an item? I can't figure out 'DD', 2 doors or 4 doors? If the former, they are called troopies and there are 12 in the US and many are RHD. If the later, there are 10 that have the limited rust you desire and getting one from an owner will run $15,000 - $50,000.

... and yes, I am the 45 wagon expert

2 or four (whatever is more common) doors, daily driver (meaning that it starts and runs on semi regular basis) sorry for the abbreviation.

Saw one and have been wanting one since...

I am not afraid of mechanical, I just have enough projects. (Bronco 5.0 zf 5spd, Jeep Rockcrawler, bobcat, work...) I want something that I can drive back and forth to work.... may 40 miles a week.

BUT, that when I finish the Bronco, I can start on the cruiser.

I've learned my lessons with projects though... I would rather spend 1.5 times as much for minimal rust (my big clumsy hands work much better with sockets, wrenchs and stuff)

I am not looking for an untouched one, just a nice looker when I am done. I plan on a ramjet 350/700r4 sitting on 31 allterrains.

I hope that helps...

I this doesn't work out, I will pick a 63 longbed here in town.

some history:
pre 1960, ?? there was a FJ28 wagon, never even thought of in the US.
1960 both the FJ28 (2 door) and FJ35 (4 door) were made in limited quantities (both have FJ25 grills, centered axles, 4sp tranny).
1961, the FJ43'LV' (2 door, less than 1 year production) and FJ45'LV' were introduced (world market). Both bodies corrugated side panels, made by Gifu Body (NOT TOYOTA). There was also a 43 soft top that was a 96" wb 40 series.
1963-1967 US delivered FJ45 wagons ('LV' left hand vehicle). Discontinued upon the arrival of the comfy FJ55 in July/Nov 1967.
(note, original trucks have the archaic drivelines of the early-mid 60s, poor wiring, spartan interior).
1968 (ish) world market the 45 troopie introduced. removable top, two front doors, like a long, long 40.

Most troopies in the US are right hand drive aussie models, only 3-4 (I know of) were lhd central american spec. NONE were ever delivered to the US showrooms. Many are 2H powered, one is 2F, one is being converted to vortec/tbi (J Boltrek). I have seen a couple for sale in the $17,000-$24,000 range which is $10,000 too much for what the truck is. There are also 43/46 hard tops (96" wb) which were made into the 1980's but those are even more scarce in the US.

Asking for a rust free (and original paint) 45 wagon ('63-'67) is a ridiculous question. about 130 still exist, and 75% of those are parts trucks. 10 are on the road at any one time- most are projects that get passed from owner to owner. TLC has done 3 and I believe another is under construction- but these are $50,000 trucks (maybe worth it?, warranty, a/c, new driveline...a new car in an old shell). Parts are scarce (having parted 13 of them I was the source-now mostly gone). Stock ones are hideous to drive. Poor steering, 3sp on tree, weak engine, 4w drums non power, and old tired suspensions. A complete overhaul to new spec is needed. Frankly, nothing of the mechanics or electrical save the wiper motor should be rescued. Unlike FJ40's which they made and sold 10 times the number of wagons per any year (and also produced from 1961-1983 in US) you don't have that choice in the 45 herd to pick from. Guys with nice ones know what they have. The 1990's made it know to 99% of the US population what values of LC's would bring. Although not as outrageous as long wheel base pick ups (up to $18,000 for unrestored identical vintage!-and are FAR MORE COMMON) the prices on wagons did climb. Going rate for standard issue is $3,500-$6,000 with clean trucks even higher (I sold my last solid truck for $7,000 minus driveline, bodywork was done, but needed all the other details)

Hey I might look dumb, but I ain't stupid (don't ask the wife though)

I KNOW I am not going to find prisitine paint, or perfect mechanicals..

40s are very common here, heck I know of three rust free Nissan patrols IN TOWN..

I wanted a good base that I could drive for a year or so.

I just know that I am not up to panel replacement or fabrication...

Got pictures?

My friend Brent has one that's very nice he wants to sell. He says he wants to sell it, but he's asking a bit much. ($8000) It's clean, original and complete. He's hinted he'd take less. Here's some pics and info. Please note that the pics are on the blue side. You'll see what I mean. Rick D. on this board has since sent Brent a replacement lens and Brent has installed it.

I can go take more pics of it if you're interested.

You're not much of an expert because I know a guy that brings in at least 8-12 a year. This is the guy that TLC is getting theirs from.;) I can lay hands on a diesel troopie as soon as his guys get done going through it. The only thing needed to convert a LH to RH drive is cut off the firewall, put on an american firewall and switch the steering over. PM me if you're serious and I'll hook you up.:D

I have a buddy here in town that has a 45 Troopie, LHD. He got it from a guy that brought it to the States from Africa, not sure where it started its life though!! It certainly is NOT rust free, but its in better shape than many of the 40s I've seen running around, and nothing all the way through. He's putting a V-8 in it as soon as his 4WD 61 Rolls with K-5 drivetrain is complete!! <G> He also has 3 40s (1 is not driveable, yet) a 45 LWB P/U and 60.

Are we speaking of troopies or the 45 wagons like orangefj45 has? If it i the wagon like orange has I personally have passed on 2 of those over the last couple of years. One of them for only a couple of grand, orangefj45 chewed my a$$ over that one.:D

troopies are getting to be more abundent (is that how you spell it) than 45 wagon these days. seems like every year another dozen or more make it to our shores.
hmm, maybe i need one of those too?!

There is one in a farmers field about 1/2 hour from me. Red with gold "Pomfret VOlunteer Fire Dept" lettering down the side. Kinda tragic, as it is probably unfixable. The rot is bad enough that there is NO door sills, rockers, floors, etc. It is literally to the frame in mud, sitting next to a 55 in the same shape. When I say no sills, I mean that you can walk into the drivers seat area without lifting your feet. It's bad.

The farmer said "if you kin git 'em out....you kin have em." This was a couple years ago, and I am guessing that they are still there.

Still renting...no place to put them, even if I wanted to. If someone in this area wants them, or has a place to put them, I can help you drag them out.
Not that ANYONE is in this area....

Oh, and by the way rick D...GOOD LORD you know your shit!!!
Makes me realize that as much as I think I know about cruisers...I know NOTHING:eek: :D
