: Tractor supply swivel shackles
fabricator 07-13-2002, 10:31 PM how to build cheap swivel shackles ;
Go to tractor supply and buy this toplink end.
then take a piece of rod with a 1/2" hole
and take a case of your favorite beverage to
your lathe neighbor down the road and have him
turn these inserts down.
fabricator 07-13-2002, 10:33 PM pic of inserts inserted;
fabricator 07-13-2002, 10:36 PM cut and tack your steel to the desired lengh and width.
i used 3/8" steel.
fabricator 07-13-2002, 10:40 PM wanted a gusset for strength purposes
fabricator 07-13-2002, 10:44 PM paint with for favorite color and install
fabricator 07-13-2002, 10:51 PM swivels well;
fabricator 07-13-2002, 11:00 PM End result is 2" more droop at the bump stop
than a shackle that doesn't swivel;
joes75bronco 07-13-2002, 11:11 PM nice job.... cool looking rig from wha tI saw of it..
Monkeyboy 07-13-2002, 11:12 PM Well Fawken-A
That looks kinda cool
Depdog 07-14-2002, 07:57 AM What kind of tube did you make the inserts from?
I have the lathe:D
Depdog:usa:
fabricator 07-14-2002, 04:37 PM found a piece of bar with a 1/2" hole and a 1/4"
wall.
had a shoulder turned on it
if you got acess to the lathe, just take the link to the guy
and show him what you want.
I am sure he has a piece of bar , he can bore the inside
also.
All you need to know is the width of your spring
and what size bolt you want.
Hope this helps.
payton 07-14-2002, 07:21 PM i thinki im gonna make me a set.. looks pretty simple..
NE-RokToy 07-14-2002, 08:45 PM what part is that exactly? Just curious if you have a part number or more detailed discription, unless its just something thats sitting on a shelf that I could find.
taloolarunner90 07-14-2002, 09:28 PM You live up to your name. That is one of the cooler ideas I've seen in a while. I tip my hat to ya buddy!:grinpimp:
bigdude 07-15-2002, 05:10 AM That's some sweet ass shiat :beer:
Would you trust it in an unlinked suspension (SOA or SUA)? (Don't think I would)
4x4runner 07-15-2002, 06:00 AM can you post some more pics of the rig????
thanx
Skyetone 07-15-2002, 07:06 AM are you the guy who built the ither swivel shackles a while back? I built some swivel blocks and they sucked. They wouldn't return to square. Are these the same way?

A collective "TOLD YA SO" from the board :flipoff2: .
Fab. has 1/4 ellip, so they are very different...the links keep the axle centered
fabricator 07-15-2002, 11:11 AM i wouldn't trust it in a unlinked setup.
and i would propably make a spare. just for the simple reason
of the tractor supply toplink end would be the weaklink,
so to speak.
thanx for the good replys.
I called it a toplink end and the dude showed me this
at the store.
( It is called a LIFT ARM end)
I haven't made any other swivels than these
Alaska ZJ 07-15-2002, 11:35 AM Your welding, cutting and overall skills look like.............well......very well done work.
Good idea and well put together:flipoff2: :beer:
fabricator 07-17-2002, 04:34 AM yea; I will get some pic's of the truck and post them
may be a week or so. It is a friend of mine's ride
The back of the frame was junk so we cut it off.
and 4 linked it
hay Big Dude you goin to errocc again,
if so I mite give you a hollar.
JeepinIan 07-17-2002, 06:02 AM Good work there.
It looks like that could be adapted to work for an anti-wrap bar as well. (For those of us running leafs)

Not to rain on the parade, but
You neglected to mention the resulting 2" of added lift you got when installing them.? or no?

A little help here???
I want to use these as the frame end shackle mount for both the springs and traction bar. Just need my buddy to get the motor back for his lathe :trooper:

the lift is the same as it was. made the hole
in the ear to the toplink hole the same, so the ride
height stayed the same.
would be an easy way to get a little more or less lift
if you wanted it.

10-4!
morpheus 07-19-2002, 12:17 PM technically, that's not a toplink end. toplink end would be threaded and be like a giant heim joint. that's a liftarm end.
