Hello all,
I am looking to upgrade my front axle (stock d30). I have already dont the rear which is now an (f8.8). I would like to try and stay stock and have heard that some of the waggy d44 would work. I was wondering if anyone knows what year would be close to a stock length of the d30, have a drivers side drop (HP if possible) witht the same lug pattern. I know i have almost no options without going to a modified front but any help/ideas are welcome.
Thanks

there's no factory Dana 44 that will easily fit into your YJ with a 5 x 4.5 lug pattern.

You could alsways put some TJ front shafts with good axles and u-joints into your Dana 30. This will require a new seal, but it's one you should be able to get from Warn for fairly cheap (I do not remember the part number).

^^^ only 5 on 4.5" option other then TJ Rubicon D44.

71-77 Ford Bronco - 5 on 5.5"
80-91 SJ Grand Wagoneer - 6 on 5.5"
78-79 F-150, F-250 requires shortening but only HP option. - 5 on 5.5"

im runnin an 86 waggy front with an adapter on my 8.8 from motorsports-tech. There's also ways to change the bolt pattern to match the 5x4.5 (or 5.5?)on the waggy via various other parts, i looked into it.....got lazy and bought the adapter. Im sure if you search around you'll find it.

What tire size do you plan on running? If you're staying 35" or smaller, stay with the D30 and carry spares. It's not worth the trouble stepping up. If you're going bigger, go straight to a pair of D60s. You'll end up paying about the same when all is said and done and be tons further ahead of the game. I have a waggy D44 matched to my F8.8, and after I was all done setting it up, I could've gone with a D60 and spent close to the same $$$.

My two cents...

I second the what size tire. 33-35 should be no problem for the 30.

IIRC the 92 had a high pinion 30.
