: What axles should I go with?

Okay, it has now been long enough where the wife has been convinced new axles are in store for my 76' CJ7. Now my question is, what axles? I got SOA and want to keep it, and I don't want the tire to far out of the wheel well (yes I could narrow them, but I got a budget of $3000). I have looked into Scout D44's, but I have heard something about not being able to do SOA with them.

Pretty much, what should I do? I was thinking D44's because I plan to run 36" Swampers, but then again something like a D60 would be more of an upgrade, but it will cost a LOT more $$$.

So advice needed!!:homer:

I did, looks like a awesome jeep, but didn't see anything to help me exactely. Another question, found a guy with tons of axles, what year axles are best for what? Like what year rear D60 had 35 splines and what had 30? Need help. Anything is appreciated greatly.

i am right at the end of a 1 ton swap, chevy dana60 14bolt hummer h1's 38" swampers. i kept track of every little thing that i bought for the swap and im up to $3700. rear disc's, h1 rims with rim stiffeners,38"swampers,wfo steering arms w/1 1/2"x3/8" dom steering, heavy diff covers,35 spline outters. full wigth axles and the front measures 78" out side to outside. if you got better deals than what i got you might be around $3000 easy. hope this helpshttp://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/2963000-2963999/2963062_45_full.jpg

yes that helps. Thanks. I may try and max out what I have with really offset wheels and what not. Because, we have looked into this with a friend that knows a lot about this, and it is complicated, much more than I thought. It is over whelming thinking about it so I may have to just stick with the stock axles and then completely maz it out with my 2" spacers, 15x10 max offset wheels, and wide tires.

Find some wide track CJ axles. They're cheap and bolt in and you get discs in front. Move the parts you want from old to new. A Dana 44 is not much of an upgrade from a properly built model 20.

I'm right at $3K with my axles (not under the '85 CJ7 yet, but complete):

'76 Cherokee NT D44 front w/4.88's, Aussie Locker, AlloyUSA chromolys, Warn Premium lockouts, 5-lug conversion, Xtreme Duty Steering Rods, BTF High Steer Arms, stock FT knuckles drilled & milled, RockCrusher cast diff cover

Ford EB 9" rear w/4.88's, full spool, 33-spline chromolys, disk brake conversion

Well, I found some 86' CJ7 axles. A d44 rear with ARB and 4:56 gears, and a D30 front same setup. $1800, should I move on it?

okay deal, but not to much of an upgrade .... If your light on the gas and stay 35-36 you should be okay

Well I plan to run 35x16" Boggers with 15x12 wheels, I got a 5.0L in my Jeep and I know I ain't light footed. So I guess I should do the D44's? I found a deal (and I made a thread on it:homer: )The deal is a D44 and D60 for under $400.... would I clear my diff well enough with them? There from a J20.
