I just got my 1997 5.7ltr Vortec sitting in my rolling chassis. Finally a big step in this whole process. It raises a question I have been thinking about for a long time. Fuel delivery system. What have you guys done and how did you do it? I am going to run two tanks 18gal stock and 22 gal aux.

I am thinking of putting an in tank fuel pump in my Aux tank and then using the 18 gal to fil it.

HELP your input is needed.

I used an inline electric fuel pump for my LT-1 part #E-2000, you should be able to cross this numer over to anything but i suggest getting it at auto zone, that is where this one came from.

It is from a Ford 460, and came highly recommended.

I used a generic fule pickup and matching fuel guage from Summit and am using the stock tank to keep the weight in the middle of the Cruiser.

For my TPI set up I am using two pumps, one low pressure and one high pressure. I hit the books at the parts house and looked up after market fuel pumps for OEM replacments. I discoverd a 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo is an inline pump that puts out 90+ PSI and more GPH than I needed. I picked one up from the local Pick and Pull for $15.00, including the mounting bracket with the high pressure (HP) filter mount and lines. Another $20 for a huge Bosh filter and I was set. A basic $20 low pressure pump rounds out the syst. I did machine my own banjo fitting to adapt in using AN-6 HP lines. I am sure one could buy such a thing if they looked around.

I built a fuel resevior ( about 16 oz) with four fittings on it to help keep the HP pump always fed. (at any angle) The low pressure pump draws from the tank and goes to one of the fittings on the resevior. The second fitting (the lowest) is the pick up for the HP pump. The third fitting is the return from the motor, and the last is the return to the fuel tank (highest fitting). With this set up the rig can be on it's side and the HP pump will still get fuel. Since most HP pumps are cooled by the fuel, they will start to die when starved. (and a starved HP pump also = ruff or non running motor) The resevior also acts as a buffer from the pulsing sound of returning fule from the motor. This would be loud in a 78' and down stock FJ-40 tank.

For running two tanks just pick up a silinoid for twin FI tanks. This will have 6 fittings on it and will not only switch the pick up point from tank A to tank B, but also the return line to the tank in use. You should find this at most parts houses, Jegs, Summit, JC Whittny etc. Let me know if you have any questions.
