: Question about the value of a 2.5 ton 6x6??.......
convertiyota 07-14-2002, 12:48 PM A little ways from my house is a volunteer fire dept. with a 2.5 ton 6x6 firetruck. It's looks a lot like the truck attached except it's not convertible and the rear of it is a service body type with drawers on each side and there's a reel for a hose. It's red and on the front is a ram setup for a snow plow. It's been sitting in the same spot unused since I moved into my house last November. So this weekend I went down to talk to them and see what they would want for it. Well, keep in mind I have barely looked it over, and I only want it for the axles and would part out the rest. The axles looked to be in pretty good condition. They told me it had a $14000 dollar multifuel motor in it and that they bought it about 5 years ago for $5000. They haven't driven it in 2 years but the chief said it only needs batteries. Are they stock with dual batteries?? He told me to make them an offer and I said $500 and he said they would talk it over at their board meeting Monday night, but that they would probably want atleast $1000. I'm going back over there Monday night to talk with him after their meeting. So, my question for you guys is.......if I buy this will anyone want the leftovers after I pull the axles. I'll probably leave one rear in and just pull the front and a rear. Can I part the rest out and make my money back?? Thanks,
Sean
Macgyver 07-14-2002, 01:48 PM actually the pic is of a 5 ton i believe. you really think after you strip the front and rear axle out of it, you'll be able to part it? don't think so! you might be able to "donate" it for parts to your "State land dept" and get a tax write off...... for $1000, i would pick it up. also, what pump and tank does it have on it? take a pic and send it to me.....i will be able to help you more.
Macgyver 07-14-2002, 02:10 PM also, it is stock 24 volt. does it have a turbo and does it have airbrakes? there is a data plate either on the dash or door jam, get the model # off it and post it..... ie..... M35A2, or M812... you get the picture......
convertiyota 07-15-2002, 04:57 AM I'll check that stuff out Daniel. It's definitely 2.5 ton. I'll try to get some pictures tonight when I go talk to him. Thanks guys.
convertiyota 07-16-2002, 08:21 AM Well, I went back and talked with the fire chief. He came out and said they would sell it for $700. I countered with $600, he bit.:D :D I'm the proud owner of a fawken fire truck:flipoff2:. I have to go back Thursday to get the title and the truck. So I'll post pictures then.
A buddy of mine wanted to go halfs with me. So we're buying it $300/$300, I get the rockwells and we split anything we make off the rest. $300 for a pair of rockwells isn't too bad, plus I should be able to easily make that money back. I'll post pictures Thursday and hopefully someone can give me some specs or leads on figuring out what the hell kind of motor this thing has!!
MattS 07-16-2002, 08:39 AM Damn that is cool!! I want one really bad to plow snow with but I can't find one for less that $4000. $600 is a steal!
ashmanjeepXJ 07-16-2002, 08:49 AM Here is a donor, Man I wish they pulled the rockwells first.
Government sucks.
convertiyota 07-16-2002, 08:57 AM Found a pic, here's the motor that's in it......

Anything special about it??
convertiyota 07-16-2002, 09:53 AM There is 4 batteries on each side of the cab. Which ones need to be charged for this to start assuming some of them are for accessories.
jeepnmatt 07-16-2002, 10:04 AM FYI to everyone reading this:
i have a friend that lives in central Illinois (Cullom) and is trying to sell a pair of 1953 M-211 2.5 ton 6x6's. i think he wants $1300 for both (and will entertain offers). one truck is complete and runs, the other is missing the bed and doesn't run. also comes with extra transmission and a set of 10 good de-mounted tires.
he got them because they were cool, and now is tired of them and has more projects than he can ever finish.
shoot me an email if you are SERIOUSLY interested.
