I have a 1994 dodge 12v cummings and i need to find out what sensor controls the charging system (alt) tach and cruise control. I know its either the cam shaft position sensor or the crank shaft position sensor. Im kinda stranded till i find out. and location of sensor. I know one is hiding behind the starter well at least on the newer cummins it is.

I'm pretty sure the senor is on the front of the engine -- you can see pictures of it in most 12V KDP fix writeups.
See attached - middle of second page.

Also --- the alt is fused in that truck - big 120 amp job -- the truck will start and run (assuming enough reserve battery power) with the fuse blown but no charging and other wierd things will occur...
Triple check that before you tear into anything else. It is under the hood in the power distribution box.

Good. I watched a 'professional' mechanic swap out an alternator and a TPS on my truck - change the ground cable on one of the batteries - add a ground strap from the battery to the block --- when the problem was a bad fuse the whole time (caused by a wrench/screw driver arcing off the alt when the truck was running I think...) Good thing I wasn't paying for any of the work or parts :D
