I've heard a lot of talk about a possible crawler box/doubler and adapter being developed for the fj62's auto tranny. What's the deal? I've called mudrak and that guy down in colorado, but they sure don't seem to know very much about it. Other than..."well, it'll be similar to the fj60 adapter, but a few changes will be required...we'd have to open one up to get a good idea". This doens't help much. I need my wagon to crawl, and spending $1300 for a 3.05:1 ration from MAF is less than ideal. Any body have information or ideas?

I am going to put one in, but behind a 700R4 with the TBI 350.

I notice you're in Portland. Are you affiliated with OTH4x4? That conversion sounds pretty good. I would definitely like the v8 power. You doing the conversion yourself? How much the whole conversion going to run ya? Unfortunately I don't have a shop or the mechanic skills to do something like this, what would you recommend? Thanks

I've been trying to get in touch with OTH4x4 for a while now, because they've done a caddy engine swap and i want to do a 500ci into my Fj-62. Their e-mail is down or something.

A 500 ci engine in a 60 series is going to be a bitch to cool down, and you're going to have to build a serious drivetrain to handle all the torque. I think it's cool, but overkill. There's a dude in Florida with a 454 in an FJ60, I met him briefly once, Jerry something?

As for an FJ62 crawler, I've heard a bit here and there, but nobody seems to have the straight scoop. Considering how long it took to develop crawling options for the split case, despite it being a stronger, better transfer-case, I wouldn't hold my breadth...

I am only affiliated with OTH4x4 through the Cascade Cruisers, and I wheal with W and James. Oh ya they did my original SOA. W' has done quite a few 60 V8 conversions had has it down. (two guys even shipped their rigs from the Mid West to have him set them up. V8/SOA) All totaled I have now done three of my own complete V8 swaps, with the last one being fuel injected. With this I will be doing all my own work. My final cost should be anywhere from $2500-3000 for the new drive train. Perhaps cheaper if I can find a good used motor that I can skip a rebuild on, then use a GM transfer case. (auto transmissions ALWAYS get rebuilt in my book.) Since I am also doing a SOA, and replacing most of the interior I am planning an extra $2000 for this. I funded the project by selling the daily driver and forcing myself to drive my 40 as temp. transportation. (Dont get me wrong it is a blast to drive, but A/C and a stereo are nice sitting in traffic, and 10 Gallons of fuel a week with the Camry vrs. 30 with the cruiser!):smokin:

As for recommendations, ONE: Keep an eye out for a good 60 with a V8 already in it. (cheapest way to go) TWO: Talk to shops that have done this swap before, for price and what they consider a proper V8 swap is. ;) Let me know if you have any questions on this!

You should be getting them at off the e-mail link on their web page;

I will see W' tomorrow night this months Cascade Cruisers meeting, I will let him know to check the states of his e-mail.
As for rat motors in 60's there was a LSC guy at Moab with a fuel injected 502 Murcuiser marine motor stuffed into his 62. He claims it does 110 solid like a rock down the road, hills or flat! I will keep mine under 90 thank you vary much, I like my arss in one piece! I know he was trying to sell the sucker but he wanted $30-35K for it! However it was done by way of complete tare down, and it comes with the scrap book and binder of receipts to prove it!
