it has something to do with the combination of water, ice and wind. when the water freezes it makes ice sheets and supposedly wind helps to move the rocks easier across the muddy desert. i was reading about this awhile ago. i guess there is no human record of seeing one move in real life or on film. its pretty weird...

Highly recomend going, there are a few spots to bring your crawler (defense mine has a huge wide open boulder field) but the 90% of the park can be done in a stock taco.
The mainstream theory is that durning the few periods of intense rain/snow the area gets, the playa gets slick and the wind is so powerfull it can push the rocks around. There have been a few studies with camera's and what not but nobody has been there at the right time to see it happen. They also can't explain how the rocks make crazy right angle turns and do loops. Its a trip!

ALIENS.....
i watched a show on the discovery chanel or something about this, but it was several years ago, its pretty wierd, i would really like to see a rock just creepin across the desert...
