Where do you measure the castor to get the correct angle on a front axle? It's a D60 from a 79 F350 if it matters. I'm putting coilovers on with some twister arms. I can adjust after I've welded the brackets in place but I'd like to start with it at about 2 degrees. So, where do you measure from??? <IMG SRC="smilies/beer.gif" border="0">

its the angle through the steering joints.
both joints aligned vertical = zero caster. upper joint rearward of lower joint = positive caster

is this enuf?

Actually I was wondering where you physically measure from. I know it's thru the axis of the knuckle but not quite sure how to measure it there. I thought maybe take the angle flat against the yoke, but I don't know if that's the same. And I don't know if the leaf pads were welded on exactly horizontal(or what would be 0 castor). See what I'm sayin

Pull the knuckle, use a rod through the ball joint holes. Only way to be sure that I know of.

Measure off the top of the knuckle, its square to the steering axis.

Get a magnetic Universal Protractor from Sears On-line. They are $9.99. Put it on the back side of the knuckle on the housing. Measure there. Rotate to where you think it is good and measure again.

Measuring the angle through the balljoints will get you very close to the caster measurement, but not exact. Close enough for our purposes. But FYI, it isn't actually caster, it has to be calculated from a host of other measurements...

I found the angle finder at home depot for about 10bucks. This isn't a daily driver so it doesn't need to be perfect but I would like to be able to drive it around. So, I just measure the angle from horizontal off the top of the knuckle right? and set it around 2 and then adjust. For some reason I was thinking I needed to know what the pinion angle was on the axle in the F350?
