I can't believe no-one started this already  The Con run post has a few updates but for the rest of you let's hear it.

I got the new rebuilt tranny installed, which includes: Remote filter kit, cooler moved to front of Rad, all new cooling lines, and new shifter cable. Found out why I dumped the fan into the rad awhile back, when I pulled the crossmember the tranny mount fell apart and was completely shredded. Drilled the flywheel out or the 10" convertor, screwed up one of the holes and stripped the corresponding hole/bolt :( Guess I'm running on three bolts for a while. Bolted up the new tranny mount, drilled three new holes in the crossmember and mounted the IH/Jeep tranny combo. Setup the new B&M shifter cable, dumped in fluid and started her up. No weird noises :bounce: Tonight install the t-case and take here for a spin, then bolt in the cage, cut the fenders, and few minor details and I'm off to the Con.

Specs on the tranny, if your interested I can provide detailed part numbers. I used all the Jeep 727 internals, and the IH case.

TCI Trans Shift kit
TCI Rebuild kit
Kevlar rear band
High Ratio (3.8) apply lever
Mopar Deep Pan
Remote filter

Well, I installed my other seat so my Roommate can go next weekend. Checked/tightened all the bolts, checked fluids, misc stuff.

Sat: bought all the crap to adapt the q-jet to my intake...towed my roommate a couple of times..his Chevy is possessed and quits at will!...Welded some more...my cage hasn't bee fully welded yet..finished most of that...

Sun: Put on q-jet..quickly filled the intake with gas (On the outside). Seems the q-jet could use a rebuild kit...

that's all...I will wire up some other things this week and checked a few other things and I am ready to go...well, as ready as I'll get...

Edit: I almost forgot: Sun morning, my buddy picked me up along with my welder, my dryer plug adapter for the 220v, misc other fab tools..we went to his house to repair his ripped off lower control arm mount from his axle...well, he also wanted me to wire his quickair, so I sent him to the store to get misc wiring stuff..while he was out, I removed the ripped off mount from the control arm and determined that is was DOA..I also looked at his other mounts...the upper pass side one has been bending back and forth for some time..the paint was all cracked and the mount was twisted...I pointed this out to him...told him that he needs a new housing..this one is fawked:( and also pointed out that he needs to look over his shiat after every trip...he also had a brake line getting ready to go:eek: ...anyway, we decided that he is already out grown the capabilities of the stock crap..he bought a long arm kit and also bought a rear D60..we will find a D44 front and start putting th stuff togather to do an axle swap this winter...Supah-Dave is coming out!

BTW...I fawken hate TJ's...

Finished up the 1.5 inch drop on the motor&trans. Took it out for a test drive and was pleasantly surprised with the smooth ride of the unbalanced 42's. Today at lunch ...dropping off some drive shafts to have shortened and balanced...... then its time for some carnage :D

Saturday i finally installed my cb antenna ( had the cb cable laying on the floor board for the better part of a year! )
I also installed a tachometer, mounted it to the steering column.

Sunday I cut my 3 inch body lift into a 2 inch and a 1 inch body lift. I installed the 1 inch body lift ( 2" just seemed a little tall, and after running the 3 incher, I don't want a tall body lift).

Gonna do some fender trimming tonight! I am trying to run 35's, not rub and have the smallest amount of lift possible....lots of trial and error. I was hoping I could trim enough to run 35's and just a spring over with stock springs, but that isn't gonna happen.

Sealed a leak on my Q-jet. Opened up my last fender so I won't be rubbing my tire when turning a corner or coughing:eek: it was REALLY close.

Lets see, planned on smothing out a lot of rough body work, but my buddy let me down pretty bad. I think next time I'll just ask if I can use his welder at my place instead of his.

Drove it around a lot so I could better diagnose the problem that I've been :crybaby: about for the last month.

Anyway, I didn't get a whole lot done, but at least I know my truck drives nice and smooth.

EDIT: Oh, and with my extended front shackles I SUCESSFULLY flexed out my scout front and rear with NO RUBBING AT ALL, Running 37" MT/R's On only a SOA, some extended shackles and a LOT of fender trimming. Although I do need bumpstops for the front since I bottom out my shocks

I got my axles bolted up (WIDE with the 2.5 bs... Maybe too fawkin wide), bent new break line, popped in new u-joint, mounted tires on new wheels ( white :barf: )... and a couple of other silly things.

Oh, still waiting on my steering linkage :(

It was fawkin' hot here all week/week-end.

I know, :crybaby: 100+ isn't unusual for most of you.. but we usually only get one or two weeks of 90+ (and one-two weeks of high of -20)..

I spent the weekend out in the street, burning, working on the truck.

Got the 3-row rad installed. Customized the customized upper rad hose (originally the truck had a 2-row 69-73 rad, which required cut'n'turn on the upper rad hose.. which had to be undone with some 2" exhaust tubing on Saturday with a '74 3-row installed).

Couldn't install the fan shroud since the motor mounts are shot.

Instead, squeezed an electric fan from a '83 Pontiac 2000 in between the fan and rad. Only rubs now and then when I'm on it. (gotta check what's self-clearancing tonight).

Replaced the kinked brake line from m/c to prop valve - getting to the prop valve was a real b*tch.

Took it for a drive around the block - scary brakes.

Re-bled again.. still no dice.. $40 later I had a vac bleeder and finally have brakes.

While bleeding the brakes, in 100+ heat, over a 15 minute span it got dark, dripped a few drops that felt nice, then hailed on my legs poking out from under the truck..

Managed to get it into the shop (a bay opened up Sunday afternoon..) and finished bleeding. Brakes feel much better - maybe as good as they used to, but I'm now paranoid and looking for problems. :D

Mounted up my custom west-coast Jr mirror brackets on both sides..

Wired up the turn signals, I think the column switch is bad, so a SPDT toggle goes in tonight..

Almost finished Joel B's spring perches.. cut the center pin hole, cut the perches off from the section of tube, just need to cut the 1/4" flat for the end-caps, drill for a shock, and weld.

Put the front DS into the racer.. still need to trim the tunnel cover a bit for the twin-sticks.

Customized the old AM radio mounting bracket to take the CD/MP3 deck..

Finally pinpointed my oil leak. I replaced the pan gasket recently, thinking that was it. Now it looks like it is the oil filter bracket seam that is leaking. So, I need to yank that and RS it. I used the gasket supplied in the rebuild kit, but I should have just RS'd it and been done with it. Ah well, should be an easy fix.

Didn't get to my fuel pump. Probably this week, but life has been so hectic, kind of feel like taking a week off.

Started cleaning the rear end housing.... what a mess.
Primed and painted my new custom BS wheels. I used Rustoelum 769 Industrial Enamel primer and Rustoelum 634 Black Industrial Enamel. Both were thinned and shot with the air gun. (here is a link to pretty pic of the wheels (http://www.mo-4xtoys.com/torc/P0000983.JPG))
Disassembled rear end, there was only about a half a cup of gear lube in the rear end.
Went to Sears for a flare nut wrench and walked out of there with $50 worth of tools - and that's after the 10% Craftsman Club discount.
Tore down the front junkyard hubs. Turns out the outer bearings were SET 35 and the inner bearings were LM104949 Cones and JLM104910 Cups. When I pulled the inner race out of one of the hubs, I noticed that hub must have seized a bearing at one time and spun the race in the hub. The hub was all wollered out and chewed up. When looking through the bearing catalog, I noticed that the LM104949 is paired with a JLM104911 in a SET 38. I pulled the '911 out and compared it to the '910. It was just a little bigger on the O.D. SCORE!!! It just took a little cleaning up of the hub and the '911 pressed right in! Dodged that bullet - I didn't want to go looking for a 3rd set of hubs! (BTW, these were for my BIG bearing spindle 5 on 5.5 hubs.)

Met Jeff at his house in Ceres.Waited for Randy P. to show up and we headed to 7000 feet in the Sierras, Niagra Rim. We got there about 5:00 pm and set up camp. My wife and Jeffs wife could'nt get off work early, so my wife picked up Jeffs and the showed up at about 11:00 pm. Randy from Fresno also showed up late and brought his friend with a tricked out Land Rover. Saturday we did the rock run, had lunch then headed to the rock pile (canyon). I got a couple of bumps & scraps but nothing big. Sunday we packed up and headed home. Had a great weekend.

Didn't work on a scout at all.

Drank lots of
Got my Front locrite installed three times:flipoff2:

Drove a front tire up my three foot vertical retaining wall then fell off of it. Thought I ripped my side wall but didn't thankfully.

Hung out at the vacant shop Location of Future Disfunctional Wrenchathon.
Drank more .

Sat aroungd the shop drunk trying to get an old Elgin Outboard motor to run.
Got board and tried to flip my Xj over in the shop using the two post lift.

Slept alone last night :( Sara is out camping with her friend until Tuesday.

I also started cleaning out my garage.

I also rolled the Buggy chassis over repeatedly in my yard like it was a big tonka truck in a sand box. I was making big V8 noises and crashing noises the whole time.

No truck wrenching... unless you count backing it off the trailer from last weekend, airing it up and driving it over to my in-laws (to be) when we returned thier truck (tow rig from last weekend, got to love AC :))

FYI, MT/R's and a rear spool like to howel in corners :D :D

Worked in the yard Saturday, added a couple of 8x8 beam steps and moved about 2 yards of dirt combo back-hoe/shovel. Plus some weed wacking. Jenni started the stain on the laundry room shelves, last thing to do in there :)

Then had to clean up an go to her cousin's wedding.

Sunday I was *forced* to go to church, I didn't even burn... came close though. B-inlaw-inlaw (to be, Jenni's B-in-law) was the special guest sermon it their family church (he's working on becoming paster, one more year of school in Minisoda). Good service.

When we finally got home I hoped in the backhoe and raised/leaved my scout parking area/future shop site.... heehee, backhoes are fun. Scraped up the existing gravel, filled in about 1' or so of dirt, then laid the gravel back down... got about 1/2 done. Got to move/scrap that pick-up carcus and finish (tonight??)

*wanted* to go wheeling Sunday... but too many damn other things going on... maybe this weekend.... NWBRU weekend after that!

Saterday went to Dutton and helped tech for the mud bog, then changed tires for Lenard Nelson when one of his paddles went flat. With his jeep boggers don't work very well. Sunday replaced my mangled oil pan and mounted the 16-35-15 boggers on my scout just for the hell of it. Took my new 30-06 out and run a few rounds through it.

I got my doubler stuff in today. I also had to run around buying my new toy, a Miller 175 plus with the gas and cart, AND install the 220 and run the line. Ugh. I tried laying down some beads on my spring cups and I SUCK at welding all of a sudden. This gas and 220 welding is different that flux core at 110. Gotta grind some of these welds and redo them after I do some practice on things like my trailer and such.

Oh, Nellie cut all the plywood and lined it all up for the trailer. We used only runway steel for the sides where the tires will rest, but used 3/4 plywood for the nonload bearing parts. She ROCKS

Now, I only have to measure, align and cut my links, fab up the hangers for the links, put in new 33 gal fuel cell, make new drivelines, and tie in the seats to the roll cage. Probably won't worry about fixing the floor boards until after this run since the seats won't touch them.

Anyway, I look at that as being about 2-3 days work. So, it's looking good that I will be there by Friday. I may have a passenger with me but am not sure.

Man, I'd kill for a shop to work in... I used to have full access to an airplan maintenance hanger at Sky Harbor airport. Talk about sweet... could just roll the rigs on in there, and go to town. They don't let you do that anymore though, which is a bummer. So now its all about my driveway. Ugh.

I did manage to get the new springs under my '78 this weekend though. And replaced the shocks all the way around. Kind of sweet to be able to actually go over a speed bumpe without bottoming out the suspension anymore!

The factory spring plate on this axle is located under the axle tube, that’s what the square ubolts go thru, I’m using these to snug the everything up until I buy some U shaped ubolts and make or locate some spring plates.

<shrug> Rock grabbers. Cut em off clean. OTOH, ubolts around the springs should help keep them from fanning...

Hmmm, ubolts around the springs should keep them from fanning.... I think I will hit the hardware store for some 2" internal width ubolts. I have strap on some of my springs, right up by the perches, but it is not a very *clean* application. Might try some small ubolts (not axle ubolts) see if they keep stuff from fanning, and look a little less... hack, at the same time... They come U, instead of square, but I think if I bolt em up, then hit em with the big hammer, they will flatten out pretty good....

Yea they are. They are not welded on though, they are bolt on plates. The factory spring perches were tough enough to remove, had to use a torch, sawzall and grinder.

I'm picking up 3/4" ubolts w/ tall nuts for 10 bucks a pop from dynatrac this week on my lunch break. I have some 1" plate I might use for spring plates...maybe I'll just buy some 3/4 instead, we'll see.

A hammer usually fixes my fanning problems :D

I dunno guys. This rear coil conversion and doubler install is A LOT more involved than I had hoped. I still need to make one lower link, the top links and drivelines. I spent all day yesterday fabbing up the crossmember one lower link and all the mounts for the links. I figure since I have one lower link made, I can use it as a pattern for the other one so it should take only a couple of minutes instead of close to an hour. But, what a PITA it is to cut all this metal without a torch set AND by myself.

Anyway, if I make it this weekend, I'll be lucky.

Hey Curtis,

without me being there to see exactly what you are cutting, I can only guess...But, anyways, here are some of the tricks that I use:

Buy some metal cutting blades for a regular skil saw. Home Depot here has them for $2 each...I use my Skil for cutting all kinds of stuff.

Also, you can buy small cut-off wheels for a grinder..they don't last long, but they can save you a bunch of time...
