don't "tap" in - use one of these:

This One (http://www.partsamerica.com/productdetail.aspx?MfrCode=DOR&MfrPartNumber=85613&CategoryCode=3067I)

and it should be the negative side of the coil

Good luck.

eh?

AFAIK coil has two "prongs" sticking out of one end. One should have a little "+" next to it and the other should have a little "-" next to it. Hook into the negative side of the coil for the signal for your tach. Depending on the tach it should have

White: + Dash Lights On
Red: + Ignition On
Black: Ground
Green: Signal (Negative Coil)
