hi all
my buddy just got a 91 f250 with a 302 5 speed for almost nothing, not sure what axles it has but they are 8 lug. he wants to make it a fun truck for off road. around here there is not much rock crawling so more mud, trail and hill climing.
we know very little about these trucks. is there potential with this truck on a cheap build or is it a waist of time, sorry i have always had jeeps. i thought by asking questions on her i could get some help on a starting point. i think it has a 4 +/- lift and p265/75 16.
would like to know a good gearing, performance mods, weak spots, anything we could do on the cheap. over all the truck is in good shape and is not a daily driver but would like to keep it some what street legal.
thank you for any help,

you can fit most 35" tires on a stock f250 - id run some 35" muds, trim the fenders, put a good 3" cat back ( i like flows ) a K&N intake, run 12 deg of timing, and put a detroit in the rear,

most likely you have a TTB 44hd and a ford 10.25 rear - the rear is a good axle, the front is 1/2 ton shit with 8 lug - and if you have the cash some 4.56 gears ( 35s" ) as the 5.0 has little umph at low rpm

do you think 4.88 would be to much?? whats a good replacement for the front? run it till it breaks? run 12 deg of timing-advance or retard?
thanks

4.88's should be okay, you could swap a dana 44 8 lug solid front (cheaper than a 60,and easier to find), advance the timing 'till it gets detonation then back off a degree or two...timing is free power.
