Hi everyone I have a 1995 YJ and I am replacing the axle shafts in the Dana 30 to get a one piece shaft on the passenger side. As a result of this it looks like I am going to loose the functionality of my 4wd indicator because I will no longer have the vacuum disconnect. Is there any way to retain the 4wd indicator light? Can I just leave the vacuum unit in there just as the 4wd indicator switch? Thank you.

You could. But is there a good reason to do this?
Admittedly, I have had a fleeting thought from time to time to make a switch off the atlas arms to flip the indicator on when the front axle is engaged. :dork:

If you use a one-piece shaft there will be no collar and the vacuum disconnect diaphragm won't be connected to anything. The vacuum actuator tips the switch so it will work even if you kept it.
The only way I can think of to retain the light is to use a trigger switch that works off off the lever. A lot of little work for something that doesn't really matter. Do you really need the Idiot light telling you when you're in 4WD? :shaking:

Ok so let me understand your logic. Im not trying to be a smart ass so work with me here.....
You put in a one piece shaft to eliminate your disconnect, theoretically this means no more guess work if your front axle is locked together anymore.
Seeing as probably well over half the wheelers with built rigs no longer have
4x4 lights on their dashes, id say just forget about it.
After all you shouldn't need a light to tell you that you are in 4wd as the above poster said.

If you hade a vac. dis. you had a vac. stwich on your transfer case, whether 231 or Atlas. Replace the vac. switich with the TJ electric switch, run your wires from the vac. motor to the ele, switch and it will turn on your 4wd light.

The Atlas II has a port for a switch?

You could just use the electrical switch that is used on Cherokees that don't have a disconnect. Goes on the tcase instead of a vacuum switch.
