: 727 pan depth
Mechanos 04-14-2008, 08:11 AM What is the depth of an OEM pan on the 727. I've heard that an OEM 47RE pan is deeper than the 727 and would be considered an upgrade. Since I put a Mag-Hytec pan on my tow rig, I have a 47RE pan laying around that I'd like to get rid of, but I don't want to misrepresent it.
Scout Dude 04-14-2008, 10:36 AM Just going off of what I remember (since I am no where near one to measure) I'd say that they are between 1-1.25".
between 250,000,000,000 and 350,000,000,000 Å:flipoff2:
Edit:Thanks for the tip, I will keep an eye open for a 518,618 46RH,47RH or RE,48RE deep dish pan.

Don't hold me too it... it's just something I heard. I can measure my 47RE pan, but I don't have a 727 pan to compare it to.
Ben Segrest 04-14-2008, 03:16 PM I just measured mine, it's on the truck so it's not super precise, but it measured 1 1/4"

You've got a Chrysler transmission in a tow rig?

Sort of.... it started life as an ordinary 47RE. Several years ago, it turned into a full DTT trans good for 600hp/1200ft-lbs. It'll do the job just fine.
I just measured mine, it's on the truck so it's not super precise, but it measured 1 1/4"
That's good enough for confirmation.... the stock 47RE pan is approx. 3" deep, so it would be an upgrade to hold more fluid in a 727.
Binder 04-14-2008, 07:19 PM Are you sure it's the same gasket pattern?

Yeah.... the Mag-Hytec pan that is on my 47RE is actually a 727DD (double deep). The 36RH, 37RH, 46RH/RE, 47RH/RE and the 48RE (727, A-518, A-618) all use the same pan.
Malibu 04-21-2008, 11:52 AM I have a jeep 727 out of a Wagoneer and went to a local shop to see if they could suggest a deeper pan. They came up with a pan from a Dodge 518, I think. It is about 2 inches deep and holds about 2 qts more and bolted up without a problem. I don't know if the scout and jeep pattern is exactly the same, but both are TF727.

Yeah, the pan patterns are the same, it's the bellhousing bolt patterns that different. The 47RE is in the 618 family.
