Alright, I do lift kit installs for extra money around here and this one I did has got my head spinning all around. It’s a 2001 Cherokee limited and I installed a 3” Rancho lift. It did not come with new lower control arms. Anyway, after the job was done he noticed (I did not) that it had a small vibration in the drive-train. So I checked around the other BB’s and was told that I needed to lengthen his drive shaft by ¾” jeez, for a 3” lift  Anyway, it stopped briefly or so he thought. But now it’s back again. Any thoughts on this and what I need to do to correct the problem? TIA :D

Use a YJ slip yoke.

The YJ slip yoke is a bit longer then the XJ Slip yoke.

I lifted my 90 Xj 6inches or so and had a bit vibration.

Once I put the 6 degree shims and YJ slip yoke in the Vibes went away. Either that or my Last few trail runs caused so many other parts to Ratle that I can't feel the small vibrations anymore.

So tell the fawker to either wheel the damn thing or ad the shims and Yoke :flipoff2:

Monkeyboy, a YJ yoke will not help an 01 XJ, they already have that yoke installed.

With my installation, I found that the tires made up most of the vibes, for some reason, it was more noticable after the 3" lift. Also, to get rid of 95% of the remaining vibes, I dropped the xmember down by two washers.

If that doesn't work, its SYE time :(

If its a speed related vibe (like only at 50mph) its most likely tires.

Thanks guys. It is a speed vibe and happens at 35-40 mph. So if I understand correctly I can do 2 things: Add washer shims to the cross member and drop it by a fraction or add the SYE kit to it. Does this sound bout right? BTW the tires are 32” BFG’s and of course they (tire co.) say it’s not the tires cause they balance out and are fine. So I will suggest that to him and then the other options as well.
And MonkeyBoy I don’t think this will see much abuse off road.

Gettin my newbie ass kicked today but here goes nothing.

If there is enough mileage on the u-joints they can have a set wear pattern, when you change the angle of the shaft it will cause it to vibrate (no duh), if your lucky new joints "might" get rid of the problem. All the other posts still apply though, and this may or may not do the trick, it did once for me, on a mildly lifted YJ.

That thought had crossed my mind as well but paid little attention because there are very few miles on this rig. But I will check anyway. Thanks.

On my 01 I had it up to 4.5 with no vibes but I added a 1 inch spacer to the T-case crossmember. Drop it down on the front or rear hole it will have a stud instead of a bolt. Remove them and install 4 new longer bolts with the 1 inch spacer. Done!!

I did only an AAL to the rear of a buddies and it had vibes.

If you are lazy see here: http://www.rustysoffroad.com/ T-case drop kit $12.95 with instruction cause I know you will need them.

Oh and BTW, this shit belongs over on JU. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Make sure you know where the vibes are coming from before you do anthing. Don't assume that it's the rear driveshaft.

Pull the front driveshaft and see if the vibes go away. The 2001 comes with a standard rotation front d30. They are more prone to vibes due to the lower mounted pinion. A t-case drop will make the front DS vibrate more as it increases the driveline angles.

After running without a front driveshaft, try running without the rear driveshaft.

Try rotating the tires and see if the vibes change or go away.

Good luck,
RR3

I got your JU and instructions right here…hold on…it’s somewhere in here…OH!!! Here they are :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Thanks Matt I will try and see if that works. I don’t think money is any issue with this guy should it go further than this. It just pisses me off that such a mild lift does this to the Heep.

And Lame, if my runner was held together by bailing wire I would still drive it before any Jeep :flipoff2:
You’re just jealous

vibrations at that low a speed are almost always driveline related!
If you feel it's tires...than have them match balanced on a Hunter 9700 balancer...this balancer will correct it if it is a tire problem.
I've done a couple of these same lifts and some vib and others don't:confused:
I would definitly try to lower t-case or change the lower control arms to an adjustable type...

Monkey Boy.....Duh....coil spring rear suspension..DON'T HAVE LEAVES!!

With stock control arms and a 3" lift his alignment is going to be off. 35-40mph is the front end range where death wobble kicks in. I would tell anyone to get an alignment and balance the tires, and he's already done that. I would look at a caster of about 6*.
