I wouldn't use one as a carry weapon but they are a good intro 1911. The RIA GI was my first 1911. The only thing I changed was the grips.

Ya can't beat the price.

The "sub $600 1911s have to suck" mentality.

I wouldn't carry one either unless I'd shot the piss out of it first without issue. But then again, 1911s hate me for some reason.

well i guess i can use my P2000 and take off the TLR2 and stick it on something else.....

i just wonder how hard it is going to be to conceal, being the non compact P2000. think USP w/ a short barrel.

I'll tell you from only my personal exp.
15-20 years ago I bought a 9mm LAMA 1911
worked great, had it like a year traded it off...........wish I had kept some of the guns I traded off, uzi mini & carbine NEW
HK93 NEW:shaking: ya I was a dumb kid

recently I bought 2 years ago a gi Springfield 1911 .45, $550ish
had several jams in the 200 or so rounds I shot, traded for a ar15 upper:grinpimp:

buddy at same time had a 9mm springer, the $900ish model, I also bought this NEW and traded it to him for part of a truck deal, it jammed worse then the cheaper model gi I had, he sent it back to sf to be fixed, after several weeks it's returned...............still jammed:shaking: he sold it and got a glock, no jams:flipoff2:

I sure like the looks of 1911's but so far I haven't seen good results.............guess I'll just have to buy a few more to see:D but I'm into AR's right now, looking into an AR pistol build, think they Will let me put it on my CCW? I have room for a 4th gun on my permit:flipoff2:
short pistol buffer, 7.5 barrel, shoulder sling, bullet button 10 round mag:laughing:

I think that applies with any semi-auto pistol. On a well known revolver I think a box of ammo and I am happy, but on my 1911s its probably more like 500rds minimum.

My current carry is a $450 Springer Commander that I bobbed. Polished the ramp. Otherwise its still stock and it works great.
Just ran another 100 through it yesterday afternoon flawlessly.
I still want to change out the sights, but this is a great shooter.

I wouldn't trust my life to a gun without first having fired a minimum of 600 rounds through it, no matter what it is.

I've shot and handled one...it had quite a few failures. The only 1911s that have worked out of the box for me are Nighthawks and Wilsons. I've been wanting to try a Springfield Pro...

I have put close to 500 rounds through the RIA. There were some initial FTFs. That seems to have smoothed out but I'm not 100% on it yet.

The "sub $600 1911s have to suck" mentality.

Nope. My daily carry is a stock XD40. Well under $600. :D I have a Springfield Champion (sub $600) that would be the #2 daily carry.

They're good weapons. The trick to any 1911 is to shoot the heavy rounds. Never go under 200 grains.

whats the ultimate carry pistol?
is 9mm enough power?

It's important to use quality magazines in a carry gun. They don't have to be expensive, just reliable. I have Chip McCormick 8-round stainless steel mags for my 1911, and they perform flawlessly. I paid $8 each for them from Cheaper Than Dirt.

Primary = Springfield Micro .45 1911
Backup on the left side = Sig P239 .40
Just because I only get 3... = S&W 3913 9mm (this one changes regularly depending on my mood)

I dont go anywhere without my SA Micro. I have a thousand through it (bought used with a few hundred) without a single failure ever.

I have a rock Island and have had little to notrouble with it. like it or not, 1911's need to be broken in. unless they are put together by a master gunsmith most companies will tell you to get fucked on complaints unless the gun has 500 rounds or more. mien has about 200 through it (aprt being mdified too much to be shot) and has had maybe 2 malfunctions. one failure to feed (stovepipe) and one slamfire (my fault, took too much off the hammer hooks). all in all nota bad gun and I would reccomend one to a first time 1911 owner such as myself.

My friend bought the Charles Daly 1911, jammed some and he started using colt mags and it stopped. He showed me that the mag follower was thinner on the cheap mags and didn't support the front of the bullet. It really feels like a great gun, and really inexpensive. My best shooting Colt 1911 was made in 1914 and chrome plated by some crazy drunk 1950's VFW parade leader. It, however shoot and feels perfect. I wouldn't hesitate getting on of those Charles Dalys if I wanted a 1911 for under $300.00. Considering most high end 1911's are $750+.
