well I used the search Button and came up with nothing.
I'm looking for a tire carrier that can handle 39" tire +.
looks like jeeperman is done!
not to sure about steves jeep fabrication?
just wondering if anyone knew of these compaines or another company out there that makes a rear bumper/tire carrier that's worth a $%^k.
this would be for a 76-86 cj.

Hate to say this: Go buy a welder and material and build your own setup or pay someone to do a custom job. I do not know of any thing out there you can buy off-the-shelf general tire carrier that can handle that big of size. I've only seen stuff that can support 35's. Any bigger then that, and I garreentee you the setup is a one-off custom job.

Go to quadratec and check.

But this sounds like custom one-off work is required to get what you want.

good luck

This one isnt for a CJ but you get the idea maybe they will produce one for CJs later.

Theres a few out there main thing is the tire size is a bit of a limiting factor in most "off the shelf" tire carriers that your looking for. Yes Jeeperman is dead I have one its a good bumper and it sucks they took a bad turn. Also www.rockhard4x4.com does make one similar to Jeeperman but they limit the size to 38".

a 40in tire is alot of weight to hang off the back of a cj. you would be better off with a tire tube.

Steves Jeep fab bumpers are heavy, but also heavy duty. i have just the rear bumper on my 85, and it only has four bolts holding it on. maybe his tire carrier has more mounting points...? that is the only con i can think of.

thanks all.
I talk with steve today at steves jeep fab. and I'm not really to sure about the hole deal. Like one of you said the rear bumper is only bolted on with 8 bolts threw the rear cross member?? and no other supports. I asked him to send me some pic's of the cj tire carrier. so that I can see how it mounts.
I'll post the pic's once he sends me the info. also I know that a my tire weights a ton. I already have a tire carrier that was made by 4wd hardware. it's rated up to a 35" tire. I really don't need the tire to swing out due no tailgate. So I might just make some mod changes to mine. Atleast my 4wd hardware tire carrier is bolted on with 16 different bolts that includes mount to the frame. if anyone else knows of a good place let me know. And that genright tire carrier doesn't fit the style of my jeep, but thanks for the info. Man I wish jeeperman was still around.

Well you can always cut out the old crossmember and put in something stronger and beefier or you can buy one. I know theres a couple mfg. out there but heres a Genright one.

By doing this then the added weight of your tire carrier and heavy ass 40" tire should be better supported by the cross member and frame. As well as adding some frame tie ins like what Jeeperman sold and Rockhard4x4 has like this...

The other thing to do is tie something into the back of the cage like this.

Heres another rig but some idea.
http://www.arabiasoverkill.com/proj/aaron/full/aaron23.jpg

You can add a type of carrier that clamps to your existing cage if you dont want it to be solid with clamps likes this..

http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/O.D.-Tube-Clamp-p-1727.html

And heres some plates for the wheel mount like this.
http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/mounting-toyota-gmford-p-256.html

Not to say buy all of this if you really want to make it yourself but if you do want to buy it and build it heres some of Pirate vendors that you can order through or just get ideas from the products and pictures I linked. Think about it this way a good carrier is going to cost you 600 bucks easy when I bought my Jeeperman in 03 thats about what I paid w/it powdercoated, if you already have the tools..ie welder chop saw you can build it hella cheaper than that. Hope some of these ideas help.

That'll buy steel, but it won't buy skills:flipoff2:

Seriously, if you have the skills, building it yourself is the way to go. Bumpers/racks are time consuming, that's why they're $$$. 4x4 Labs in Sacramento sells a killer hinge and latch and Ruffstuff sells the best tire mounting plate IMO...that'd be my choice
