I'm starting to wire up my new fuel tank, with internal fuel pump. My question is on wiring it. The rig is a 79 CJ7, with 350TBI and 89 YJ tank. I want the fuel pump to have power all times except when in OFF and ACC positions. Should I wire it direct or through a relay? Just wondering what you guys who've added electric fuel pumps to your non-electric fuel pump rigs did.
Thanks,
Chris

Well, I haven't added one from scratch. But my Holley Red pump runs on a 10 amp fuse and the only time the fuse pops is when a spare driveshaft squishes through the wire. So I doubt you need a relay.
While you're at it how about a hidden switch somewhere to keep YOUR ride YOURS?

10 amps is a lot. I doubt the ign. switch can handle that. I'll go with a relay. The hidden switch is already part of the plan...
Thanks!

Not sure what Chevy but Ford runs an inertia switch in-between the power and the fuel pump. That way if you get in an accident it will shut the fuel pump off. I’ve talked to several people (maybe someone can chime in?) that said the Inertia doesn’t go off on the trail.
