I plan on swapping the trans in my dad's motorhome (E250 chassis, 351w) from a c6 to an aod. I realise that it is kinda backwards (most people here seem to be throwing away the aod for the c6), but he wants better gas mileage. He will occasionally tow his samurai behind it too.
The motorhome itself isn't much bigger then a normal van, and the trans will be fairly built, so I am not worrying about durability. I was wondering if anyone else has done this swap and if they had any tips for me. I assume the flexplates for the c6 and aod are different, are they? And will the tv cable hookup on the stock carb work for the aod, or am I going to have to get a different bracket? Any other problems that you know of?
All help will be greatly appreciated.

Instead of building an AOD.. I would spend the same money on a gear vendors over drive unit, and retain the beefy C6.
I think an AOD will not last long in that application.
if you insist on swapping at least see if an E4OD will work

I hate to agree with a canadian. but the E4 would be a better trans over the AOD.

I dont hate on the AOD as much as some, but if no money has been spent yet, I would agree on the C-6 and add on overdrive unit.

I already have the trans and am rebuilding it at school. I am doing a few upgrades, such as the aod-e overdrive drum with a kevlar band, either an A overdrive servo or an aftermarket super servo, an aftermarket (can't remember the brand) 3rd gear clutch with I think 9 clutches, etc. I'm doing all the work myself and have a decent budget for parts. The trans should hold up. :D
Basically I was wondering if anyone had done the swap and what kind of problems were encountered.

Well if your still going with the AOD, your going to need a flexplate from an 351/AOD equipped crown vic P/I. I bought mine brand new for about $50 from a parts store. I believe I used '89 for the model year.
