: Found: 67 RC D44 Front

Found this jem this weekend. I know I have seen arguements about when the RC D44 came out, and thought I'd post this. I didn't have my camera with me, but did verify the year of the truck as being a 67. The axle was indeed a high pinion D44 coil sprung, weld on c bushing mounts, and kingpin. This is sitting in a junk yard in Eugene, OR. If I get back down there, I'll take pics. I could not get under the truck to get the BOM, but I do have a buddy that will attest to its existance.

It's a fawking Newbie thing, you wouldn't understand.:flipoff2:

Nice job. Make sure you pics of the BOM with the high pinion in the back ground. I want a copy.

You forgot (if it's a 67) the King pins are open and it the early style king pin type.

Nobody,
Prove to me Ford had a regular rotation (non-HP) in the F100 from 67-77. I'd love to see just one picture! Heck I'll give you $10 cash if you can find a stock low pinion F100 4x4. They are all high pinion!
(Bounus points for anyone who can name the day Dana release the Reverse Spiral Gear set for production)

Hey this is probably kind of a dumb question, but if its not 'kingpin' then what is it?

This axle is a open knuckle king pin (one of the Mag editors just learned about this axle this month Mag), unlike the closed knuckle king pin the F250 used. In 73 the F100 went to a ball joint, 77.5 for the F250.

I have title to an 88 B2 on a 66 EB frame with a HP 60 in the front. There's a bunch of Toyota's runnning around with HP 44's. Does that make them stock? When will this how old is the HP 44 madness stop?? :flipoff2:

Just stirring the pot.... I remember the last thread

Mr. N, why don't you scan the document that will clear it all up once and for all....or is your Dana corp contact just guessing as well. :flipoff2:

I honestly don't know, but I question why ford didn't use HP in the early bronco.

'Cause Ford bean counters kept fawking with shit.
Actually who the hell knows?

But Ford had a low pinion D-44 in the F-250 in '76 and yet had a HP D-44 in the F-100/F-150 in the same year, and the low pinion D-44 in the EB in the same year. No rhyme or reason.

No, no, no!!!

1976 Ball joint in the F-250, when it got disc brakes.
1977 1/2 was when it went High Pinion.

Tisk, tisk.....you should know better. :flipoff2:

Wish I could prove it, but a 2 hour drive for a couple of pics seems kinda asinine. If I do head back down there, I will take my camera and get some pics. I'll make sure everyone has a set.

It was most definitely king pin. As to what type?? I don't know. The outer knuckles, king pins, and all brake parts were gone.

I was hoping to put out the fire, not add to it:D

I honestly don't know, but I question why ford didn't use HP in the early bronco. I'm working on an article. I'll post ALL the info, including the Dana doc (.pdf from Dana) at that time. I've post poned writing it, Hey it's summer here in MN, If we don't enjoy the 2 months of summer...

Or Just call Dana your self, it only took me about 9-14 people, in 3-5 states to get my first document.

Get the VIN
Dana axle BOM
Rear 9" axle BOM
Pictures of the knuckle, BOM, spring type (leaf or coil) and of course the low pinion.

OR don't waste your time because it's a haevy half ton, it'd have leaf springs. Still haven't had to pay this bet out yet :D

The F100's went to balljoints at least by 72'....I have one sitting on my shop floor. Open knuckle drum brakes, and 260X u-joints.

This is the natural state of Ford product lines. :D I'm sure that the workers are blindfolded and randomly pull parts from unmarked bins.:shaking::confused:

How else could you possibly explain the mismatch of parts that should and shouldn't be there on just about every Ford model ever produced? (and don't give me that mid-year change up story either ;) ) :p:p:p

However if we go here we have to start talking about how different Ford plants got parts at differnt time... No need on this post, lets save it :)
