: Transmission choice?

So I was checking out the F-Toys at the WeRock Perris comp.

I am really liking the shortness of the L52HD. Front drive shaft looks good without having to do a two piece shaft (ones I saw had hight pinion front). Rear drive shaft isn't quite as steep an angle as some of the others. T-case shifters are further forward looking like they are easier to reach.

I currently have a turbo R151. I have driven it, and the W-56 in my other 4runner and haven't really seen that much of an advantage to the lower first gear, at least in trail riding situations. I suppose the strength is a factor, but who has actually broken a trans?

It seems the value of the turbo trans aren't what they used to be, but I think I could sell it to cover at least most of the L52HD cost. Anybody know if Marlin gives a competitor discount? :grinpimp:

So, what say you F-Toyers?

The real reason for the R151 is the 23 spline output/t-case input. It is a stronger transmission overall.

 Bacon is currently out in front of the R151, but second to the L52.

I can see it now, the latest F-Toy product from Tool Chassis/ Western Fab. An F-Toy specific exhaust manifold bacon cooker.

we are running the L52from Marlin , it is shorter and very user friendly. After 2 years of comps it is still going strong, hope this helps, sam

And Bacon jumps into the lead. Though it has a lot of votes from non-FToy owners. :suspicious:

L52HD is a great option. I'd go with that.

I wish I would have built around one of these...

If we didnt already have a w56 (and I think a spare) Marlin's phone would have run for the L52. Main reason would be the longer rear driveshaft. If we get more droop from the rear, Im HOPING we can clearance an IFS CV enough!

Well I sold my R151 the other day and went and picked up an L52 today. It's a greasy mess and that fuggers heavy, but it is short! I think I'll be happy with it. Now to get it the Marlin treatment. :grinpimp:
