I Have Just Bought An 88 Yj With A 302 Fi With An Aod Tranny And A Borg Warner 1345 Transfer, I Dont Like The Chain Drive Transfer So I Was Wondering If Someone Could Help Me Out And Let Me Know What Other Transfer Cases Will Bolt To The Aod Tranny. I Want To Go To A Gear Drive AND WOULD IT BE BETTER TO DO A COMPLETE SWAP ON THE TRANNY AND TRANSFER BECAUSE I DONT KNOW THAT THE AOD WILL HOLD UP. ANY SUGGESTIONS.
Thanks
Brannon

Advance Adapters makes a kit for the 88 and up AOD transmissions to work with the Jeep Dana 300 transfer case. https://eshop.advanceadapters.com/commerce/ccpc1076-1080-28p-n-50-290129-ford-281988-26-later29-aod-adapter-kit-50-2901-50-2901.htm They also make an adapter for the Ford Dana20 transfer case (which would have driver's side drop).

I you go with the Dana 300, you will need to flip the case (to work with the d/s front axle), or better: Invest in an Atlas case or STaK case.

The AOD can be 'built' to handle abuse. However, if you don't want the overdrive, you might consider a C4. The C6 is a heavyweight, that may be a bit of 'overkill'. But it's also an option. You'll need to locate one that was bolted to either a 302 or 351W.

That Pretty Much Sums It Up All In One. If I Use A Dana 300 What Do I Need In Order To Flip The Case. Is The D20 Better Or The D300 Better? And I Guess The D20 Bolts Right Up To The Aod Correct
Thanks For The Info.... Greatly Appreciated.....

Ponder this about those chain drive cases, they sat behind powerstrokes in 1 tons towing stupid heavy trailers for years without failure. For a chaindrive case they are stupid strong, I think they're rated for 450 ft-lb torque but I may be wrong. If you want to swap a t case any ford case bolts to any ford tranny. Thay all share the same input spline count and size.

Hint: You really need to quit capitalizing the first letter of every word. It's difficult to read. Thanks.

Of the two, the Dana 300 would be my preference. However, either one will require an adapter. By the time you start adding up all the costs, you may be within MAW range of an Atlas or STaK.

And a whole lot cheaper to keep it, than to replace it.
