Just got a SYE on my TJ and the stock skid plate just won't do. I work at a car shop and our motorcycle room has tons of metal, as a broke kid working his way through school, buying a skid won't work. So I was wondering if you guys have any good pics that will help and also the dimensions, I will have my skid plate off this week when we install the SYE along with my ox locker, and other parts I just got. So if you have pics of yours can you please post them so I can get some ideas, and also how much you dropped them from the frame rail.

Thanks

Redrilled the tranny holes and flipped the d300. I had to cut the floor out and replate it, but the crossmember is flush with the frame rails and no body lift

I saw your post on JeepForum Scotch, It was very helpful, but you have a Body lift, and I'm not the guy to invest in a body lift, I can't stand the sight of the gap. But I used your template to mock up a skid plate on cardboard, I'm just trying to think of a way to still use it without the Body lift

Hey I was in the same boat as you. College kid with a small budget. I used 3/16 steel and cut out pieces and welded them together on both sides since I didn't have a press at hand. I've been pleased at how it came out. It's also very strong, I've sat the entire weight of my Jeep on rocks with the skid and it hasn't shown any signs of damage or bending. I tried to keep the height close enough to stock height to keep from having to cut into my tub as well as not doing the BL and also to keep my transfer case linkage from binding. Anyways, here's some pics. And yes, since then I have beefed up the oil pan skid with square tubing.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more pics.

you are either going to have to space it down from the frame or cut a little bit out of the floor for the top of the transmission and the transfer case. You dont need a motor mount lift either, but you have to cut the bottom half off the motor's fan shroud

Edit: you also will need to make a different style transmission mount that does not hang down more than 3/4" (including bolt heads...I used countersunk bolts) below the bottom mounting plate

I don't mind spacing it down a little, I just don't want the stock plate, I go through lots of mud and the thing is a shovel, I figured with a custom one it would be better. Plus when I rock crawl, i've smashed up my tcase skid and bent it in a couple places. I'm trying to talk to a local fabricator to have him make one I just need a basic design

I was thinking something like this:

Just welding the bars on to keep it from looking like a t-case drop, I almost would like to model the Nth degree skid, without the $515 budget.
