: How hard would it be to install a 1.25'' JKS Body Lift on my 99 TJ Sahara?
MountainMan864 04-21-2008, 01:53 PM I am gonna purchase a 1.25'' body lift for my 99 tj and i am trying to do it myself so i will not have to shell out big bucks for labor. I have hardly any mechanical experience and was wondering if i could put this on myself or would it be too much a pain in the ass. I could get the tools needed and have a friend or two to help me in the process thx.
If you can read and follow simple instructions and have the basic tools needed you can do it no problem.

Mean_Green 04-21-2008, 02:59 PM easy bro, if you could make it here to ask im sure you can do it
BWB Jeep 04-21-2008, 04:28 PM I suggest a motor mount lift at the same time and you eliminate the need of a drill. But just the body lift itself is unbolting 11 bolts, jack one side of the jeep up at a time, slide spacers in and tighten.
dmarsingill 04-21-2008, 04:45 PM Be sure to loosen or remove the fan shroud before jacking it up. (ask me how I know)
If you do the 1"mm lift also ....the shroud doesn't have o be relocated(much cleaner)
I prefer the ones that replace the whole mount. Energy or Daystar come to mind.

MountainMan864 04-21-2008, 06:59 PM yea i was planning on doing a 1' jks motor mount lift at the same time to make it easier and just simple upgrades to do to my jeep. I got a couple friends and could get the basic tools needed. What should something like those 2 items go for $200 for both? thx again this site is a big help. Again i have little to no mechanical experience.
Buccaneer 04-21-2008, 09:42 PM Be sure to lock tite the body mount bolts... ask me...... know
Little Jeep 04-22-2008, 09:55 AM A 1 inch body lift, (or 1.25 inch will work) is good addition as high clearance skids & such sometimes require a 1 inch body lift.
When you do lift, loosen all the bolts but do not remove them. Do one side at a time. Follow directions that come with kit. BEFORE you attempt to start engine, make sure that fan blades can turn freely without hitting anything. This is a MUST DO item.... if you forget this, you could cause injury and/or major damage.
MountainMan864 04-22-2008, 12:20 PM I appreciate all this help guys and i think i might bite the bullet and give it a shot installing the bl and mml with a little help. Any more information would be greatly usefull thx.

I didn't use lock tight. I did use marking paint on the heads of the bolts and 4 years later, they still haven't moved...

Ya, it sucks trying to realign the tub to the frame...:smokin:

You should be able to get both for ~$200. I've got both the JKS 1.25" body lift and the 1" Motor-mount lift. The mml are just two spacer blocks. They are a bit harder to put in than the body lift, but overall it's a very easy process. You should easily have it done in an afternoon, if not sooner.

If you really want to make this an easy mod, invite a couple Jeep-n buds who have done a BL & MML to help. They will work for free if you tell them there is pizza & beer when the job is done........ just don't let them get into the beer before the job is done, or you could have a real mess on your hands :D
MountainMan864 04-23-2008, 11:40 AM None of my friends know diddlysquat about vehicles especially jeeps, i'm only 22 trying to get my horticulture degree and hardly have time for anything. This is my DD as well. I am the only one in our group of friends with a 4wd vehicle.

You are never too young or too old to learn to work on your Jeep. I am a few years (I say "Few Years" with a smile on my face) older than you, yet I truly enjoy learning to work on my Jeep. Just do your research then follow directions. When your lift kit comes in, read the directions, climb under your Jeep and make sure you understand what has to be done, then when you feel ready, Go For It!
You would probably really benefit from becoming active with a local 4x4 Club. Not only will you have friends to wheel with, you will have buddies close by that can help you work on your Jeep, or for you to call if you have problems while working on your Jeep.
MountainMan864 04-23-2008, 02:33 PM I really want to learn how to wrench on my jeep to save some costs. I think it has a 3' lift kit but not sure and it has 33's and 3.73 and 30/44 combo. I love my jeep. There are no local 4x4 clubs here that i know of. Spartanburg is a little bumfudge town in south carolina.

You will never know if you don't look for one... you may even have to drive a little. Most of my wheel-n spots are 200 plus miles one way from my house.
Here is one place to look.

I just spent $180 for both the JKS Budget MML & BL from Northridge4x4. Piece of cake install. Seriously only takes a few hours if you go slow to make sure you don't break anything. On the plus side, if you have someone who knows how to weld, you can modify your gas tank skid & push your tank up an inch too.
