just wondering whats some tips for doing this? i did one the other day i tried map gas for like 10 minutes and that got maybe 20% of it out then used a torch for like 20 minutes and had it in the vise with a bunch of pressure on it to break it loose, is there another way or any advice for next time. i discolored the heck out of the metal so i really dont want to make the metal any weaker.

ive replaced probably 20 u-joints my whole life and this is the first time i ran into the stupid plastic worm

More heat, That plastic will burn out before you hurt the metal

Yep, more heat. My first experience with those pissed me off. The trick is just to heat it and get it bubbling so it squirts out like a really nasty zit. Heating away from the holes means it will heat up and push everything out.

ok so i was basicly doing it right, i was just paranoid about actually cutting into the metal with the torch.

A little advice...wear eye protection. I have had a few of them pop violently and spray hot particles out when it let go.

I always beat them out with a hammer and drift. Once they move at all they bang right out. I only use a vice for reassembly after I clean up the yokes.

Just heat them with an oxy-acetyline torch till they pop like a zit, just be careful if you get the grease too hot it will pop and scare the crap out of ya. Also point the cap away from anything when your heating it, I had one the other day shoot the cap into a tin ceiling and put a nice dent in it :homer: Never had one do that before, just glad I werent in the way:laughing:
