DustinJ 04-22-2008, 01:48 PM ok found info on the shocks... i can not find exact info on the axles. someone tell me please what axles they would go with. i'm running the tnt 5.5 long arm with 33" tires i'm going to be using it for trails its not going to be trailered so it has to be practical and i'll be driving it around town a little bit too. but what axels and what can i get them out of? thanks, dustin would anyone suggest bigger tires? PLEASE HELP!!!!
hman333 04-22-2008, 01:49 PM if you are only running 33's you dont need new axles. i wheeled my shit on 33's with stock axles for years, it wasnt until the 35's that i started having trouble with the d30.

DustinJ 04-22-2008, 02:20 PM yea i'm really new to all this. i'm only 20 and all i've been into before were volkswagens. so this is all new. yea i'm running 33s now with the TNT 5.5" i mean should i be running bigger with tires. i would rather run something different than stock axles just because i've heard so many horror stories about them soo pleaseeeee more axle idea's!!! thanks, dustin
scraprock 04-22-2008, 03:36 PM Wait... You run a Rustys 8" kit with 43"s!?
:shaking:
If you are 20... you know how to use the internet. Search.

Don't listen to them... the 30 is a rock! :flipoff2:
Dude, use your rig first. If you have trouble go search new axles.
For the front run a true HI-9/60 combo with cromo shafts and CTM joints.
In the rear run a 40 spline cromo shafts full floating true HI-9" axle.
Pick some good housings, shave and truss them/toss in some ARB's and hammer on it.

Wheel, break, upgrade, repeat.
If you have the D35 rear, now is a great time to ditch it before you start to waste time/money on it. Ford 8.8's and D44's are great rear axles to start with.

xjemily 04-23-2008, 11:11 AM what ever you do dont spend a nickel on the 30 or 35 its not worth it,just break first and then throw em away:D
GreatWhiteXJ 04-23-2008, 04:39 PM Alright man a realistic answer for you. Ok 1st your TNT kit is a great kit and you will love it. 2nd.....the Dana 30 is not shit. Not in terms of use with 33's anyways. The standard 30/35 jeep combo is flat out just not a good setup. However its not terrible. Its mostly safe ripping up anyterrrain in 33's. But you will most defintaly fawk up the 35 long before the 30 in my opinion. As for axle swaps...you either go big or go home. If you ask me a 44/9 or 8.8 setup is pointless. Since 44's and most 6 lugs are only capable of 38's maybe 39's with a lightfootdriver....why not go ahead and asure that youll never break axle componants and swap in a 60/14bolt...or ever matching 60's. I broke far too many axle u -joints (even CTM's and OX's) ripping my 38's with alloys on a 44, to even consider recomending that swap to anyone looking for extreme use. Hell id bet you could easily snap 44 shit with 37s if you had a v8. But if your gonna hit the middle man get a matching Dana 44 and Ford 9" from a 77-78 ford. This is all easily searchable.
DustinJ 04-24-2008, 10:44 PM thanks man. yea i think i'm gonna stay around 33's or 35's for tires with the tnt 5.5". i also was told with staying with those size tires to run a ford 8.8 in the rear out of a 95ish explorer and a dana 44 out of a jeep wagoneer with some 4.88 gears and lockers. does that sound like a good set up?
jpnbren 04-25-2008, 09:54 PM If you want to take small steps and are thinking of staying in those size tires I wouldn't even spend the time on the front 44. It all depends on how you drive and what you want to wheel. But I have to agree with everyone if you are going to get into it like all of us have. Most of us will say that we spent way too much cash on axles we ended up ditching. So I would build these axles on the cheap!
or X3 on rockwells I really want to try those on my other build.
