Was gonna order the spidertrax ones. For the price, I may have to go this route. I'd be dumb not too! Very nice.

I wonder why the huge price decrease? Better chance to blow one out due a defect somehow and they will warranty them later or what?

Brent has 100 sets available. I bought set #17. I spoke with Brent about the super low price. It appears that a middleman, customs handler (EMPI) has screwed Brent over by selling these axles on Ebay and to competitors (PWorks and TrailGear).

Brent spent 8 years developing these axles and EMPI basically stole his design/product. Likewise, Brent is kind of hot about all of it and has decided to flood the market with these axles. He is selling them at his cost.

Just got mine! Due to the original cost I thought I'd never own a set of these. Like stated before, I'd be foolish not to get a set at this price. Looks like I won't be carrying spares anymore!:flipoff2:

FUCK! It's great that I just bought mine from spidertrax last week. They are nice but I could have afforded a front locker to go with them if this deal was around a few days ago.

What about just the inners to have as spares.

I will be calling first thing tomorrow morning to get my order in... I wonder if there is a gear ratio limit or tire size that would void the LLT warranty?

Bass Man
04-23-2008, 09:25 PM
The only thing that would void the warrenty is 36"+ tires. (And I would think they are like Long-fields, which if you hit the end with a hammer, warrenty is void.)

I believe they are safe to run up to 38's, but there are a lot of other parts that WILL break under that kind of stress.

My dad ran 35's on stock axles and only broke both berfields once in 2 years... It's all how you drive, but I have a hard time imagining the berfield breaking with 35" tires.

We've broken a couple hubs off(sheared the bolts off the hub), and that wasn't very hard to do, so to get the fullest out of these axles, upgrade everything they connect to.

I didn't want to be kicking myself later for not getting an extra set when I had the chance.

Ordered a second set in the morning for the same reason. I have a set of Calmini 26spline axles with Cupped birfs as back ups already, but for this price, a second set can't hurt.

NOTE: If you plan on jumping up to these EMPI/Newf/2xTough 26 spline axles, you need to seriously think a spare set. A warranty doesn't get you back off the trail, and finding a spare 26 spline axle on the trail or back at the campground is going to be tough.

Think ahead.

But damn, at $240 a pair, the Samurai axle just became a truly cheap axle to build strong.

Yankee Tim
04-24-2008, 06:36 PM
Holy Shit, Batman! Now the EMPI's on Ebay are down to $199 a pair with $15 shipping!

Is this a case of capitalist limbo?

Ebay EMPI axles for $199 a set! (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuki-Samurai-4340-Chromoly-Axles_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33729QQihZ018QQit emZ280220686711QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW)

UPDATE: I believe this is for the axle "shafts" only, as the wording of the listing is sketchy. Brent's still got the deal, and I'd rather MY money stay here.

Got mine today from Brent... along with a set of side gears.

I just saw the post on ebay for the EMPI that are $40 cheaper... that's a HUGE drop from the original price. Wondering how much lower these are going to get if this keeps going on...

Thats what im thinking, with noone making profits off this way they will either have to come to terms and start selling them again at a reasonable price, or they will stop bringing them into the US.

I doubt this "sale" is going to last too much longer.

I got in line. Ordered mine on 26 April. Delivery scheduled mid-June or later. Brent has now worked things out with his supplier and he was a LOT happier. He was unable to retain exclusivity, but arranged special TT pricing. Ordered 26-spline side gears ($45ea) as well.

Yeah. The dealer wanted $61 apiece. I'm paying with plastic and counting on earning it back this fall. These days even "instant gratification" takes a while.

For side gear, factory new needs a ridge machined off or bench ground down, otherwise they won't work with a lunchbox locker. In 1994, Suzuki changed designs of the sidegear when the TSB for "Side Gear Thust Washer Modification" came out. Trust me, I was one of the very first to find this out the hard way.

PW sells them already machined for you. See pic below and you can see where the machine work took place...

http://www.petroworks.com/big/batch2/Samurai%20Rear%20Side%20Gears.jpg

OR

Sidegears from a 12-bolt Sidekick rear work better, and don't need machining. FWIAT, these gears are cheaper at the Chebby dealer than from Suzuki.

ordered mine yesterday. brent made the market, and he can take it down by flooding it with his products. he really is po'd about the competition.

btw, no warranty at the low price. no worries, he said anything with 35's or less will hold up. i wonder what my next weak link will be...

oh, and no grinding to either, these drop in without modification to the axle housing. gotta remove the knuckle first, but that's what i do for service anyway.

we are all winners in this situation. anybody wanna take 3 sets of spare front axles off my hands? i'm not going to need them anymore!

If I put in a 26 spline loc-rite, I won't have to buy new side gears will I?
