Can any hole saw notcher notch tube at angles such as the top notch? The bottom was done easy in my notcher but it's only a few degrees.
Top done with porta-band and flapper by my brother...

I have the JD2 TN100, and it works great but seems like I need it to do more angle it can't do.
Looking at maybe this one:

Those JMRs are bitchin, but I seem to get by just fine with my TN100 for 96% of my notches, the other 4% I just use a chop-saw and grinder, seems to work great.

You can only really notch as deep as the hole saw is... (or a little further if you can break the excess off). But for $600+, I'll continue to use the chopsaw and angle grinder for high angle notches. You could buy and use a lathe for less than that...

For $250, the JD2 Notchmaster has yet to let me down! Well worth it just for the time saved!

That looks to be about a 30* notch, I've done them but I had to lay my drill press on its side, and plasma off the piece so the hole saw could go deeper. I just have to modify my notcher so I don't have to lay it on its side though. :D
Not enough stroke!
Usually I'll just grind by hand and fit unless I'm doing a bunch.

now something i have been thinking of to allow more angle, what about extending a hole saw? my hole saws seem to last a long time in the nothcher(if i am using them and not some one else:p) and i had thought about cutting the back off of a hole saw and tig welding on an extension. i think the tig haz would be far enough away from the teeth. i could make my own nothcer base with more angle with out much effort.

What about just extending the threaded insert that connects the arbor to the holesaw?

You can notch deeper than a hole saw easily. Drill it until the hole saw bottoms out, then cut accross the end of the tube to remove the part that has been notched with a sawzall or cutoff wheel. Start drilling again
Works just fine with my $35 notcher

Good info.
I was going to make my own notcher a year or so ago but the shaft/bearing assembly are like 200+ for a good one like on the one I linked too.
IMHO the TN100 wobbles to much at full extension to want to extend it more.
Good info, and even better info about the lathe.. there's one I could pick up for 700 that probably would be perfect for this but talk about floor space just to notch :D

Were did you find the shaft at? I looked at making my own and was thinking I'd have to make my own shaft.
I also assumed that the shaft just has the thread on the end for the hole saw, no "drive dowels".

Bah. Just to notch? You can turn, thread, part, bore, and even mill whatever you want with it. (depending on size :D)
You know you want one anyway.
