So, I can't believe I didn't find more topics on this.
I'm still looking for a motor.
If I purchased a JDM import motor off ebay to replace my 1.6 16 valve... what has to be done? Do I have to swap intakes? Distributors?
Also, anyone have experience with the purchase of these motors from those companies on ebay? Good? Bad? Worth it for the low miles?
Thanks guys.

There can be some differences in the loom but as you already have the 1.6 all you really need to do is swap the hardware. Generally they are fine but like anything you can get a bad one.

I would recommend a 2.5 or 2.7 V6
not that hard to swap in and almost 200hp really wakes the truck up.
for what it's worth I'll be parting mine out in about a year....

Swap the hardware...
must be a little early for me today, I can't figure out what you mean..
Other than.. does this mean I WILL have to swap the intake, and distributor?

I don't have any experience with the Suzuki swaps, but I have either done or helped do about 2 dozen JDM motor swaps on some other makes. Out of all the motors there has only been one motor that was kind of marginal, but we aren't 100% sure if the damage was present at the time of the swap or if it happened afterwards. It was a honda motor which always smoked a bit, but a turbo setup was installed shortly after the initial install so we aren't sure if a tuning mishap cracked the piston or if it was already cracked when he got it since it had always smoked.
You take your chances with a JDM motor, but I would say that you're not taking any greater of a risk than you would take when getting a motor from a local junkyard. Probably less risk actually since it seems that Americans can't take care of a car to save their lives.

should be all the same. but if you get the harness for the jdm you might have to use the usdm harness due to right hand drive in japan. i've swapped plenty jdm honda motors and they have all the same sensor and engine parts.

We get our vehicles from Japan and we have found differences in the wiring & ECM's over the years and there was a change in the MAF. If you have any of these issues just swap the engine itself and use your existing loom etc.

I did one of the JDM swaps on the 16V that was in my sidekick and all I had to swap from the old motor to the new one was the intake manifold and wiring harness and the coolant distribution pipe on the back of the water pump. The one that came on the motor had two extra outlets. I had to swap the distributor too because they did not include that on the new engine.
over all it was a good deal because I got an extra alternator, 16v head and injectors ot of the swap for my sammy.

How are the JDM motors holding up? My 16 valve has a bad piston so im thinking about buying a JDM long block to replace it
