i don't know much about lone start jeeps, just that they are a big club.
here's a new place only about 45 minutes from north austin (in Rockdale). I've never been there, but will probably check it out w/in the next couple weeks.

the rockdale park is small and looks to be all mud. waste of time for most.
boulder creek has grown in well and cline ranch trying to start up and grow some more.
satan's playground is becoming one of the big contenders.
also long ranch is a pretty fun cheap trip.

There are some neat places if you are willing to drive around. Long Ranch has plenty of trails for a full days wheeling, and its only $20. Havent been to Katemcy in about 4 years but from what I remember it was all granite boulders. Calrocs had a few comps out there that were pretty entertaining to watch and after it was over they had trails rides. Trees Ranch has some pretty gnarly stuff and lots of trails. Carnage happens. The YO Ranch was really similar but its closed to wheeling from what I have heard. TireTrax place is all mud. boo. Also a new ranch is opening up for wheelers outside a Llano, Stillwater Ranch. I havent been there but it looks promising.

Hey AZ Jeep, I just moved out to San Antonio, from Glendale/Phoenix/Scottsdale AZ. Sure miss Arizona, but like the slower pace of Texas. Shoot me a PM if/when your heading this way, we can watch and route for the Suns with all the Spurs fans :D

Yeah, we are. Family oriented but still quite active. Most of our club events are in East Texas and Oklahoma, but we get down south occasionally too. We have lots of informal runs by members too. We try to welcome the newbie in a stock rig as well as the experienced folks in trail only rigs, so no matter your rig level or experience, we have something for everyone.
Clayton, OK and Katemcy Rocks are the two best places in and around TX for some world class wheeling in my opinion. There are quite a few other good places in Texas with more tame terrain.

Trees Ranch down in South Texas is always worth a visit, its got a pretty good collection of hardcore trails...and there is always Lucifer for those who want a shot at the bounty.
And the bunkhouse is not to be believed.

This place is still new so the trails need to be broke in a little more but its coming along in a year or so these 2 and 3 level trails should be pretty good...

We've got a small group headed out to Long Ranch outside of Llano this weekend. Not sure if the date is on his website, but he's letting us come out regardless, $20/rig. If anyone wants more info, give me a call at the shop, 512-462-1881.
There are some good obstacles for a full day of wheeling, and he's on the Llano River so a little dip in the middle of the day is always nice, so bring yer swimmin' hole trunks! :D

I'll bring some stickers this weekend.
If you get a chance, come by the shop, my partner Cam is a UT Art Grad and will sketch what you want then build it. It's pretty incredible.

Plenty of full-sizers go to Long Ranch. You aren't locked into any obstacles, just cruise the trails and try what you want to try.

Wow! I am impressed by the amount of parks and ranches that are listed in Texas that I have never heard of. Quite a few are a long way from Dallas, but they might be worth the trip once some more tails get developed.
