Im sorry if i offended anyone, but it is the truth. Well let me rephrase that. The older dodge automatics suck. I think when they changed to the newer transmission was in '03 when they made the newer body style truck.
And yeah your right, it would make a sweet build!

IMO all domestic truck AT/ODs have had problems until the last few years. Deal with it. The trans that is in that truck is based on a 727 and can be built into a very stout trans. Look into diesel drag racing and you will see that that trans can take some serious abuse with the right parts. I doubt someone here would load up and set off in a 200k truck without doing some overhauling first.

Funny, I put over 150K miles on the stock 47re trans in my 99 3500 Ram Cummins with no issues whatsoever.
The Cummins however, 3 lift pumps, 2 injector pumps, Killer Dowel pin, and a "53" block!! So much for the Cummins durability:shaking:

I actually sold it and bought a V10 2500 Sport 4x4. I was expecting the diesel price hike and got a gasser. (its purely a tow rig/ 3rd vehicle, gets driven about 5K miles a year now that I have a company truck)
Sold it to my boss, he pulled off the bed and installed a stake bed, and It hauls 2000 lbs of test weights all day every, and is up around 170K miles so far, nothing more than adjusting the bands and changing the filter done to the trans so far.
