I bought the EZ locker for the rear of my 40, but after reading several posts I am thinking about welding the rear as opposed to putting the locker in. I have heard that the ez lockers quality is suspect. I have 5 inches of lift the stock 2f engine and this is my daily driver. A couple questions for anyone that has welded the rear. Can I just take out my third member and take it down to the shop to weld it, or do I have to tear apart the third member also? Is there a specific welding rod I should have the guy use. As you can tell I am no welder so any and all tips and hints would be apprecaited. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Would not recommend welding the rear of a daily driver...then again, if you don’t mind a little chirping when you make sharp turns go for it...my buddies ez-locker was giving him problems last time we went on the CON...but I believe that he did not install it properly...if you already have the locker, get a professional to set it up for ya and be done with it…:smokin:

the instructions for welding it up are on woodys site.
I pulled my chirpin POS lockrite after one season, and I know
it was installed right. sold it, had it welded up and never looked
back. :D

I say throw the ez locker in the front and leave the back open if you drive it daily. I drive mine daily, so I have a spare diff that's welded, I only put it in when I hit the hard trials. Sometimes it stays in all summer, sometimes not, but when it is in, the tires go down way too fast on asphault!

Weld It!!!!!
One way to do it is to pull the side gears and fill in the teeth on both side gears as shown in the pic. Reinstall the side gears and spyder gears like normal.
Several of us in the Lone Star Land Cruisers run them this way, no problems so far.
