: the good and the bad of my new rifle.

picked up my Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova today. checked it out and took it to the range. has a shitty trigger pull, so i polished the area where the hammer and trigger touched. made the trigger damn near orgasmic

messed with it, but it was very windy at the range, gusting from 5-20 mph estimated. sucked when trying to sight in the scopes

i have a 4 power original scope that is tritium powered (half life gone :( ) and a 8 power battery scope that i purchased a while back.

good: gun shoots my mil surplus ammo like a champ.
gun is REALLY fun to shoot.
i could shoot this thing all day compared to my M44 or 91/30. the gas system takes out almost all kick.
flings shells seriously like 20 feet

bad:
havent got it dialed into where the gun can shoot accurately, as i had to leave early from the range.
reason? the gun was pulling two shots every trigger pull. i thought it was because i had the sling wrapped around my arm hard to stready it, and i thought maybe i was just bump firing, but turns out ill be needing a new fire control group. the disconnector and the single hook will let the hammer go in between them, even though one of them is supposed to grab the hammer and let the other one snag it.

i charge the gun, pull the trigger, BANG! then release the trigger, BANG!
ill just throw a TAPCO double hook FCG i have, but it sucks i cant just enjoy the gun :(

the bolt seems to stick to the open position, like the bolt is trying to come out of the reveiver slots..... i might have to polish/fuck with it to keep it from doing that.

the magazines seem to not feed well, so im going to polish the magazine feeder areas to see if it helps.

overall i wasnt expecting the world from the gun, i bought it for the history and looks. if i can shoot less than 2 MOA with surplus ammo, ill be happy with it. when i was shooting it, i think it can shoot 1 or sub MOA with czech silver tips, but ill only know when i get the new FCG in, and go to the range again.

is it a "true" dragonov style weapon or an AK with a thumbhole stock?
I thought they had thier own style of FCG?

Hmmm, anyone else think there is a connection?

I have a cheapo wannabe Dragunov (PSL) that works like a champ, right out of the box. :flipoff2: To fix the bolt popping up add a cheap recoil buffer, they can use one anyway. That's how I fixed that problem with my AMD build.

Did you go to Carters to shoot it?

Does it use a standard AK trigger group?

Got a link to the sale ad / manufacturer?

no fawks, i didnt remove any material from the disconnector or anything, it seems that the hook didnt have enough material there, just flashing. it seemed to be working on the flashing, till it wore off, now the disconnector and the finger have too much of a gap between them, so the hammer falls in between them

i went to carters yes.

it seems to be using a standard AK FCG, ill have to trim the trigger opening a little to make the FCG rock correctly.

got it from centerfire, waited over 8 months for it. 700 bucks.

You might have removed a bit of material from the point on the trigger that holds back the hammer.

One possible fix would be to sand away at the point on the disconector where it hits the trigger. By this, I mean that the disconnector wants to pivot foward around the axis pin due to the disconnector spring pushing up on it. The disco will contact the trigger at a specific point which keeps the disco from pivoting any further foward. If you remove some material from this point, it will make the disco pivot a bit further forward, thus making it hold the hammer back for a bit longer. It should be enough to fix the problem.

If I need to post pics of what I'm talking about, just say so...

no i understand, i might have polishing those bits. its good to go as it sits now with a tapco double hook FCG in there now. i might be doing that to the original setup, and put it back in there, but right now its shootable again. i just dont like the notchy-ness of the new FCG. again...... thanks for the tip animator, ill do that and see if i can repair the original one, cause i fully enjoyed the trigger pull of the original FCG after i polished that ramp.

If it was $700 and uses an AK FCG it's a PSL, not a dragnov. Made in Romania by Cugir right? Definitely get a recoil buffer for it, that 7.62X54R can tear up the rear trunion to reciever mount if you shoot it a lot.

thanks for that tip, ill go look for one. will one of those AK47 blackjack recoil buffers work?

picked up my Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova today.

No you did not.

You picked up a rifle that has absolutely nothing in common with the SVD except for being gas operated and being chambered for the same round.

EDIT: rawr

fine. i bought a rifle that resembles a SVD to the closest extent possible, legally and within my pricing budget. happy?

So that makes it an SVD?

honesty, i didnt know there was THAT much difference between the PSL and a SVD in order to say that they were completely different

Not just that, but you ground the sear and trigger hook to make your rifle shoot full auto. :shaking: This thread has been reported to the BATFE.

:flipoff2:
Did you make sure the rear of the trigger wasn't hitting your pistol grip or the trigger opening? (or anything else)

Nothing wrong with the PSLs, mine is a great rifle, and fun as hell to bumpfire. I got mine from Aim surplus for less than you paid with 4 mags, scope, and accessories. :flipoff2: They did have spare mags last time I checked (I got some), though they are pricey.

Don't shoot heavy ammo out of it or you'll beat your receiver to death, light ball only. There are quite a few different scopes you can get that will fit the rail. You can use any AK recoil buffer in it, I just have a plain old generic $10 one in mine.

I am not a fan of the double hook. Much easier to tune the singles.

No, your mistake is akin to somebody posting a picture of an FAL and saying "Hey guys, look at my new PSG-1!" It's fucking annoying.

Your PSL is a big assed AK. The SVD has damn near nothing in common with the AK.
