My buddy got a rifle from his grandfather who was in the navy and we have no idea what type of rifle it is:confused:. There are no markings anywhere on the gun except for some chinese letters on the top of the barrel right after the bolt, which we can get pics if it would help. Thanks

What is a Japanese Arisaka?

Edit: type 38 from the looks of it: http://world.guns.ru/rifle/rfl22-e.htm

Yup.. Type 38 or a 99. -edit- compared pics, it def looks like a 38.

Is the mum on top of the reciever intact, or has it been defaced?

Post up the serial numbers and I can find out exactly how old it is and where it was built, etc.

cant find any serial number at all on the rifle. There is the number 19 stamped on the bottom. Could the serial number be located on a part of the barrel that is covered by the stock? Thanks for the help.

There should be Jap character stamps and markings. See the link that TRH posted.

There should be a cresanthemum above the chamber. The rifle is worth much more if it is intact. Most of them were ground off when captured.

I'd love to see a 5 foot japense guy running around with a 4 foot tall rifle...and tell your buddy he really needs to redecorate his living room.

It's about 5'6" long with the bayonet :D

I use my Type 38 with bayonet for those demanding Elite Team Fighting CQB high speed - no drag situations that I constantly find myself in around the house.
