: 38's...TSL's or TSL/SX????

ok im lookin at tires since my axle swap is coming together. Im currently running 36x12.50x15 tsl's. Im runnin them on a 15x8 i run them at about 8psi offroad and have never had any problems with them.

since im swapping rims for the axles and going to 15x10's ive decided new tire time. and after my last suspensions mod i can finnaly get 38s.

so here are my options from NTWonline

TSL BIAS (same as what i run now)

16x38.5x15 -- $228
6 ply, 38.2 diameter, 3k load 13.o tread width

TSL/SX (is this radial or bias???)

38x14.50x15 -- $223
6 ply, 38.3 diameter, 3370 load, 12.3 tread width


Ok based on that i like a wide ass tire because it conforms well and protects the rim and less of a chance to lose a bead.

what do u guys think... pros and cons.

Personally I prefer the SX due to it much stronger sidewall and the sidewall lugs. A regular TSL has a smooth sidewall which doesn't do much for traction and will cut easier. And a 16 wide tire on a 10 wide wheel is a bit much. IMO

The TSL/SX is a Bias-Belted tire. It is a bias tire that also has radial belts.
This is done to try to acheive some of the on-road qualities of a radial.
Because of the extra construction in the tire, it lends itself to a heavier vehicle.

For your Jeep, I would stick to the TSL or TSL radial, although a lot of guys like the heavier sidewalls for the rocks.

I love the SX's and will never run anything else. Sidewalls are strong and offer extra traction. The widths may be something to consider. If you have a full width axle on your rig the wider tires will add a little to the overall width. Getting stuck between trees sux.

if you like the TSL's stick with them. The SX's are tougher if your concerned about that

Had them both and I highly recommend the SX. The sidewall lugs will actually help you pull up some rocks as well as protect you from damage.

thanks for the info guys i dont know if i mentioned this or not but its my daily driver too hehehe.

i like the idea of the extra sidewall protection of the sx's but im all about width. so its a tough decision.

now someome said the sx also has radial belts. does the TSL have radial belts too?

as for on road which is better... yes i know they both SUCK but between the 2. and i havent gone with boggers cause its my daily.

if you are worried about road....all the bogger equipped trucks ive ridden in, and owners ive talked to said that boggers actually ride ok on road...i suppose because of the directional tread...its just the fact they wear out in 10k mi.
if i was you id defintely get 38.5x14.5 tsl.sx's
i dont think you can ask for a more beastly tire. also, since its your daily...why not check out the 38x15.5 parnelli jones dirt grips? alot of guys are having really good luck with those.

Nope. That's the biggest difference between the two. My bias ply's do pretty good on the road, except for the bouncing til they warm up a bit. I would recommend the regular TSL.

i guess it comes down to wider or not wider.

ok between the sx and the tsl which has the better ride (not that i really give a shit but its a cool question) I guess im still on the fense. any pics of these 2 tires on rigs?

The TSL/SX will have a much better ride than the TSL.
The TSLs are a straight bias ply carcass. They are a very strong tire, but bias ply tires suck on road.
The TSL/SX uses steel belts in a radial configuration, as well as the bias belts. This gives it a much better on road ride, longer life, AND a much stronger side wall.
They will also fit your new rims better.

SX's they are the only tire iv'e never see fail.Iv'e torn a 42 tsl in the tread and know guys that have torn a 40 inch bogger right in the center of the tread.And another freind has been through 3 44 inch Boggers

Thanks for all the info guys. Looks like ill be looking up a set of sx's here pretty soon. I just dont like the idea of those 1250's on a 10" rim, and not having any tread left is yet another reason why tires are a good buy. heheh <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

I'd have to so say TSL's for sure! I love my 38.5x16's... and if your worried about the onroad characteristics there not bad at all.. I was actually surprised how quiet they are.. I was expecting a overwhelming roar on-road...

JUST TRIED MY 38.5 X14.50 SX SUNDAY....ON THE ROAD DROVE BETTER THAN MY BFGS....I HAVE THEM ON 10" RIMS....THROUGH AN OBSTICLE YESTERDAY WHERE I ALWAYS LOSE ALUMINUM...THE EXTRA WIDTH OF THE TIRES HELPED DIDNT EVEN TOUCH THE RIMS.....
I GOT FOUR FROM 4WP FOR $947 OTD.....WENT TO AMERICAS TIRE CO GOT THEM MOUNTED AND LIFETIME BALANCING FOR 130$ HAD THEM BALANCED TWICE SO FAR...

I had 38x15.50 TSL and now 38.5x14.5 SX and the look narrow, other than that I LOOOOOOVE the SXs!

I have 12.50"s on 10" rims. They look fine. 8", they look a little skinny and the truck doesn't have enough stance. 9" rim would probably be about perfect, though like I said, the 10" looks fine.

I am still not sure you need the SX. If it is your daily driver, do you really need the extra toughness? 38x12.50 TSL = 72 lbs
38x12.50 TSL/SX = 81 lbs.

How are the rocks in Delaware? Lot of jagged stuff there?

we dont have rocks in DE. I have to go to paragon or GWNF to do anything. But yes ive chewed on my rims a decent amount. ripped off wheel weights, taken CHUNKS outa the weights.... heheh explain that to the guy balancing your tires.

as soon as the time is right im going with the sx's
