4.88 worked best for me when i had 35" tires great off road and still could do 80 on freeway

Auto or 5spd? I run 4.88s with a 5spd and 35s works good for me, with an auto you may be happy with 4.56s.

Go 4.88 really while it can be a bit steep on the street during daily driving its good offroad. Also with mine I can hold 5th gear even up steep hills depending the hill I can still gain speed.

OK - I'll be the first to say 5.13's

Why ? Why not !

Generally, for 35-36" tires a 5.13 is best for the autos, while 4.88s work well for manuals. IIRC, the manuals are geared deeper than the autos.

I'd go 5.13s and keep it geared nice and low, if you live in flats. Mountains or hills like 4.88s.

Why would you want 4.88s in the mountains and hills and 5.13s for the flat land. Seems a bit backwards to me. Hell for real flat land where he doesnt need as much gearing 4.56s would do good.

I run 4.56's with the AX-15 and it has the same O.D. as the NV3550.
I can pull Most hills in 4th @ about 75mph running 3K RPMS

The Rubicon with an auto needs 4.88 or 5.13's they have a deeper O.D.
My experience is 5.13's with the 42RLE just because of the deeper O.D. plus you have more HP loss with the Auto.

Just my .02

Edit: if my memory serves me the
AX-15 & NV3550 have the .72 OD (this one needs numerically lower R&P)
42RLE auto .69 OD (this one needs numerically higher R&P)
