Hey, Question if ya have a min: Do I need to replace the side gears also so they are a matched set when I replace the spider gears that are starting to get ground up? The side gears look perfect. The ring and pinion look perfect. Can I just change the spider gears and the pin that they ride on? Found this when I pulled the cover to remove axles to replace shaft seals and full brake job. 93 C2500 6 lug 7200lb 229K miles first time the cover has been off the rear :) Also who to order the parts from? I need to order next day or 2nd day air so I can have this back together by tuesday night. Or would anybody in Houston have these parts? Wednesday morning I was planning to tow a firebird up to Oklahoma and tow another truck back. Thanks, Dave

I would think you could find a set of spiders in a wrecking yard in the Houston area. With 229,000 miles I would just replace the spiders and plan on a rebuild/replacement later on.

Well, I called my bud here and he said no prob, just change the spiders , cups that go between the spider gears and carrier , and the shaft. He said Houston drivetrain on 610 E will have the parts. So sorry about the premature panic post.

A full set of 4 new pinion gears, thrust washers and pin probably costs less than you think. Don't mix and match.

mix and match.

its not rocket science.

a ring and pinion, on the other hand...

I will see what the prices are. Kind of tight on funds. I bought a project 92 C3500 diesel 5 speed last week in Oklahoma and its gonna cost me $450 in gas to go up there and drag it back here next week. Three days rental on a 8K eq trailer too will be $200. Probably shouldnt have bought the darn thing! Oh well.

You mean I can't use a ring gear from one axle and a pinion from another???:confused:

WTF?

Well if this is true than the rest of the diff is not far behind :shaking: 15 year old oil with that many miles on it....

cant you just weld them sumbitches up? only takes about half a spool of wire and an hour and a 2 liter of mt dew, drives kinda shitty on the road but is way stronger in the end.

Just bought the set , all 4 gears, pin and washers. Bout 150 bucks. Looking closer at my side gears and found they were worn some so I got the set at Houston Drivetrain on 610 East.
