: Would yall DD this 98?..35s and RE 5.5",lockers,and 4:56s
broncofire75 05-03-2008, 05:16 PM Hey guys going to look at a 1998 Cherokee sport with the 4.0L 5 speed. Rubicon Express 5.5" lift and 35x12.50r15 Super Swampers SSRs and 15x8 MT Classic IIs, w/ 4:56s, front and rear lockers, winch, SYE, manual hub conversion, Warn bumpers, chromolys front and rear, and bunch of other stuff. All for $4900 obo!!!
Looking at it on Sunday and this will be my primary DD. I know it isn't practicul but what lifted vehicle is...
So, my questions is how are the RPMs at highway speeds(55+) and about what is yalls average MPGs? The Jeep is done right and its cheap and it definatley will get better gas than my '90 Bronco with stock gears and 33s.
Doing research and from prior experience I should get around 15 average MPG.
Thats about where a 97+ XJ with 4" and 32s and stocks gears would be so I think I'd rather pay $4900 for this one completely built than rather paying about the same for one stock and lifting it and buying tires and wheels. Which would yall do? heh...
So would yall DD a set-up like that and those of yall that do how do you like it and all that?
Here's some pics sorry if they're clickys

Thanks
xjdoug 05-03-2008, 05:22 PM i'll dd anything.... but thats just me.... i used to drive 60+ miles a day on 35's and 4.56's
dozer_xj 05-03-2008, 05:28 PM It depends on how many miles it has. I have 4.5" of lift on my 98 XJ and it gets 17mpg. I have seen around 23 with a strong tail wind once. Im getting another little truck for my DD for gas milage and so i can turn mine into a toy. Mine is my DD with 130000 on it. I drive it 130 miles each way every weekend to home and back to school Im starting to not trust it as much for long trips which is another reason for a new DD. Mine has less stuff on it than that one and smaller tires. It does ok but it has factoy gears. I guess it depends on how far you drive every day. if you have to make long tips often i wouldnt do it....if you just drive to work or school down the street it would be OK. Its hard to have a toy as a DD... THIS all may be random but long story short....I wouldnt and i really like cherokees.
broncofire75 05-03-2008, 05:42 PM I drive about 25 miles round trip a day and to my hunting club on weekends which is like 5 miles round trip. Other than that I'm driving the GFs '06 Corolla.
I drive like a grandpa too. My other truck is a 90 Bronco with 2 1/2" lift and 33" MTRs with stock gears which gets about 12 MPG so most anything is an improvement LOL.
It has 150,000 miles on it but the 4.0Ls are super tough and for the last few years the Jeep has been just a toy and weekend wheeler. Guy said small stuff while wheelng and drove around town. He said he has a TJ w/ 37s so I'm sure he prefers it anyways.
PureFunction 05-03-2008, 08:16 PM I'd take them lights off the hood and drive the shit out of it!
PureFunction 05-03-2008, 08:23 PM Back when it had 33's DD of course.

broncofire75 05-03-2008, 08:27 PM Yeah thats the first to go.
People on the jeepforum.com said the same thing.
I'll probably jus cap the holes and call it a day. How did yours do with 35s? MPG?
PureFunction 05-03-2008, 09:35 PM Better than it does with the 35's :D I really need to regear it but i'm plannin on a d44 and a 9" soon so i'm just deallin with the shitty fuel mileage. With the 33's and 3.55's I was gettin like 16-18 mpg. With the 35's it just plain brings the suck but I only paid like 75 apiece for the brand new. Although the money I saved on tires i've spent on fuel.
dozer_xj 05-04-2008, 10:38 AM It has 150,000 miles on it but the 4.0Ls are super tough and for the last few years the Jeep has been just a toy and weekend wheeler. Guy said small stuff while wheelng and drove around town. He said he has a TJ w/ 37s so I'm sure he prefers it anyways.
Im not saying it will be the motor giving you problems. Another thing is you have to trust that that guys work is good becuase something he did to it might be what leaves you stranded. I mean come on the guy put lights on the hood.
broncofire75 05-04-2008, 12:27 PM I'm pretty sure he didn't do the work and he owns his own A/C business so he prolly had the $$ to have it all done professionally I'll be sure to ask. Yeah lights on the hood sucks but he said he bought it from one of his employees about 3 years ago and that guy had the lift and tires and few things on it so he may have been the one that done that. IDK. I'm supposed to go toady but I think the number I have uis his work # so I might have to wait til tomorrow.
trailworthyxj 05-04-2008, 03:22 PM Is that matt nelsons jeep?
broncofire75 05-04-2008, 03:45 PM No its a guy named Don from Canton, GA.
I'll take more pics tomorrow when I go down there. Guy seems like he may take less going to offer around $4500 an see what he thinks if not and if its in the condition he says it is I'll pay what he's asking.
Pretty good deal IMO..
Jeepernick 05-04-2008, 09:27 PM I DD my heep
1991
35s
5"
4.88s
44miles+ round trip
broncofire75 05-05-2008, 11:02 AM How's your MPG?
And how's the power and such?
phillyzj 05-05-2008, 12:18 PM I DD'ed a ZJ on 35's for a long time, i think i averaged 15mpg or so.
Jeepernick 05-05-2008, 12:22 PM I can keep up with those silly little ricer burners if that is what you ask
I get 15MPG at best.(drive it calmly)
I would say 5 out of the 44+ miles is city... so I do the recommend 55MPH on the highway and I get a lot better MPG. if I go even 60 I burn gas that much faster
with my 4.88s and 35s the gearing feels like stock... acceration but maybe not top speed(but not like I get my jeep going 80-90MPH)
needless to say im looking for a S10 or a small pickup to carry my dirtbike easier and get better MPG.... the jeep will become a toy for life after that
76scoutman 05-05-2008, 01:06 PM Drive the piss out of it on the testdrive and make sure there's no DW. If not then drive it till the wheels fall off. :grinpimp: Looks like a good price for the package. Not a big fan of 2 door models tho.
broncofire75 05-05-2008, 03:22 PM I'm not unless they're lifted. The lift came with the RE track bar so I hope it'll do good bout to leave to head that way. I'll run it up to 65 or better if no DW then it should be good.
sixshooter 05-05-2008, 05:48 PM I drove my 97 4.0, auto, 8" lift 35s everyday for two years. I liked it until it died. I drove it on the highway everyday no probs.
broncofire75 05-05-2008, 09:11 PM Not gettin it scratches and dents everywhere and flooded insode. Rigged wiring but nothing bad.
Nice jeep if someone wants a weekend driver/crawler.
$4900 takes it the guys from Canton, GA if interested I'll get more pics and his phone number.
