thats for my brothers POS, its a 82 sj410, and he blew the engine, so i was just woundering if the spare 88 engine i got would fit in it..........
so what dosn't fit??? the bolt pattern on the tranny, or the motor mounts???

I know a guy who has put a 1300 and the Sammy 5 speed in his SJ. So I know it can be done, just not quite sure how he did it. I will try to get some more details for you. In the time being you could grab a tape measure.:D

You will need a sammy tranny and the output yoke.

Match d-shafts at one of the 2 yokes, just use the correct clips for the bearing cup (sj uses C clip inside yoke, sammy uses spring clip outside yoke.

I believe the tranny mount is different, I believe if you look at a sam frame (at least on an 85) you can see where the sj tranny mount used to go and where an extension is welded above for the 1300.

The tunnel on an sj-410 is too small to fit the 1300 tranny as well. Body lift(ugh) or sawzall.

I know the motor mounts differ, my uncle swapped his by cutting a set of a sam, bolt them to the motor, drop in and weld away.
