: Is steel/cast a must for TPI SM465 in Jeep?

I have to move forward on this project. I have a aluminum bellhousing for the TPI 350 to SM465. I know that I should get a steel or cast bell, however, I need to move forweard. Are the cast and the alumi bells the same length? If so I can put it in and change later.

Thanks for the input. Remember this is not the final fitting, so it will be coming out again.

Same length but the bore where the front bearing retainer fits into the bellhousing might be wrong. That is easy enough to check though.

I have the Aluminum version. Actually two of them. I am looking for a cast one now. But if they are the same length, I can move forward and install them then figure out the mounts.

Yeah I am going to get one on Friday! Now I am having a pain trying to get the trans into the bell housing/clutch assembly. MF'r doesn't want to go. Yes it is lined up. Just an RCH to go. A little slick stuff and she should slide in.

I have a spare steel SBC bellhousing that fits a SM420. If anyone is interested $40
