Propane!

I dig it, but maybe only because it was set up in the rig when I bought it.

I think it gets worse mileage on long open sections, takes up more room at times, and for the most part when you run out of fuel your buddies don't have extra tanks laying around for you to borrow.

BUT it has hardly any wiring and runs at any angle,as long as your motor will stay oiled.

So for me thats cool, I hate wires and I drive on my side ALOT.:D

and people can come up turn off your valve and it still runs for a bit so you don't know who did it :D

I love my propane kit. It's really simple so there's less to trouble shoot when something goes wrong.

Propane gets my vote too. I have been running it for 3 years with zero problems. Call Cary at Gotpropane.com because he is the best in the business.

I'm going to run my EFI till it breaks, Then switch to propane.

I hear stories of lost horse power when you convert form fuel to propane. Is that true?

When my Formula 4 Toy is running, it will be on propane. I already bought my conversion kit from Cary at GotPropane. And I just picked up my two new 10-gal tanks today! :)

I hear stories of lost horse power when you convert form fuel to propane. Is that true?horsepower really doesn't matter, except for the drag races to and from the trails. I have EFI, because it's what was on my rig. If I had it to do over, propane would be my choice. If you already have EFI, and can get rid of all the extra wiring crap, do it. If not, go propane.

Each new propane kits requires a 160HP motor from DOA.....I guess I forgot to mention that.:D:D

You will lose a little HP, but not enough to make a difference. The benefits of propane out weigh all of the cons of efi in a big way. NO MORE HEADACHES. (obviouisly, in my opinion)

PROPANE!!

I've mentioned many times before that i've run carb and efi engines on propane and it's my opinion that the efi engine makes more power on propane than the carb engine. Really easy to set up. All you need is to make a little adapter to install a piece of silicone turbo hose to the mixer from the throttle housing and you're good to go. Lower hood line is nice too. Last time I filled my tanks it was $2.65 per gallon!

I would say tht there is 2 advantages that EFI has over propane.

1. Horse Power. Although it is almost not a factor in rock Crawling.

2. The amount of space that your fuel tank (or propane tank) takes up in your rig is WAY more if yo factor in the amount of miles you can drive on a gas setup vs. a propane setup.

The advantages that propane has over Gas is.

1. It is REALLY simple.

2. Fuel is cheap

3. It is really simple.

4. Less moving parts and less electrical = less potential for failure.

With all that said, the EFI setup that I have on the Marlin Crawler rig works just fine. It is more work to setup and because the system that I have is infinately adjustable (SDS), you tend to be constantly trying to make it better.

If I were to build another rig tommorrow, I would go with an LC Engineering motor that is specifically built to run propane.

the only other negative about propane is, no one in our industry has really tried to tune their propane motor to get as much out of it as you can. Everyone tends to just bolt it on and deal with what they get.

Now that is an awome point!! :D. pushing the potential is what its all about. Althought im new on the propane wagon i dont see many ways to up your preformance:shaking:. it comes down to trying to get more power with better efficency. i know alot of basics and some advanced methods but i just dont see how you could do it. its all within the perameters of the injection system, but the way i look at everything ;there is always one more thing you can do.

Turbo F-toy would be fun, but not class legal...

Simplicity. On the trail or at a comp the fewer things that can potentially go wrong and the easier those things can be diagnosed and repaired the better. As stated above i'll give up a tiny amount of performance for simplicity or reliability any day.

I believe propane is the hot ticket, we run a new22re and have great power. We also had Cary at Gotpropane test drive the o42 and tune it for us. He is local so no worries. He will give you great service and supplys a system that even we could install. A few weeks back I hooked up with Cary on a trail ride, we talked shop abit and he was very forthcoming to all my ??. Go Gotpropane..

Simplicity, and repairability are a lot of the reason we run gas. We have at least 2 complete EFI setups, and multiple intakes. Plus the space it takes to fit tanks, especially since we're working on the 3rd seat! I can find spare parts in almost any boneyard across the country. Heck I can scavage fuel at 10pm friday night on the lakebed too (thanks John!) If I did got propane, a call to cary would get that taken care of.
