The Blackbox is an auxillary high (1:1) / low (2.72) gearbox, that is designed to fit between your current transmission/transfer case. This gives you a number of possible ratios:

Blackbox High - Transfer case low
BlackBox Low - Transfer Case High
BlackBox Low - Transfer case Low (multiplied together)
BlackBox High - Transfer Case High

In essence, adding the BlackBox to your current transfer case gives you FOUR speed/crawl selections for your transfer case.

This is the ONLY underdrive where the output shaft is directly fixed and supported by bearings at bolt ends. This means significantly more support for both the planetary gears and output shaft.

I like the triple stick cable idea. I'm going to be running it to a 205 but this whole thing is in a rear engine configuration. Do you guys make anything that goes off of the rear of the 205? I can fab one no problem, but sometimes it's just plain worth it to buy something instead.

Would have ordered one by now but I didn't realize how badly my rockwells needed to be rebuilt. Completely going through two steering axles is spendy even without the OEM shafts.

Yeah, I'm working on a 'backwards' 205 kit ... I'd give that 6 weeks though, takes a lot of time to get through the samples to a final product.

Do you have a picture of how the shift mechanism attaches to the black box? Sorry for so many requests and questions, but I'm pretty dead set on this thing and want to gather as much info as possible before I drop $1600 on it.

what is the input spline count? I currently have a 23 spline output in my 4L60e, because I am running a jeep 4:1 231. I am looking at this and a D300 flipped to the driver side. will the cable shifter clear the driveshaft if the D300 is flipped? I really dont want to spend the 8-900 on the flip kit if it isnt needed.

Depends if you have a Fig 8 205 or round version. We can use a different TH400 tailshaft to really shrink things down if length is an issue. Give me a call and I'll go over your options with you, or PM me your number and time to call I'd be happy to give you some direction.

Not sure if I got this one, my PM outbox was wiped out ...

You will need to convert your 205 to a female type input gear. A factory application of 1980-1984 NP205 from a TH400 will have the correct input shaft - OR have a machine shop bore the input of your 205, and buy the gear 32 spline input (or if you have a freind with a ford 205, the input shaft will work).

You need a billet adaptor from the TH350 to the BlackBox $199
BlackBox - $1599 27 spline in 32 spline out.
Add shifters for the 205 - $299 (reg $329).

A quick search will allow you to find quite a number of cracked 231 crawl boxes. They're typically about 1/8" thick.

The BlackBox is slightly longer as we have an output bearing, the 231 crawler does not.

The Blackbox has a different planetary carrier than a 231.

The BlackBox also has adjustable pressure detent on the shifter mechanism, and includes the shifter itself.

Well my fj 40 is about 99.5" wheelbase. if I change what was mentioned above, would this eliminate the OEM adaptor between the 465 and the 205?

Our main case is 7.56" Long, and there is a mounting foot that fits between the Ford 205 and BlackBox that is .25" thick. 7.81" long with both together.

We don't use any spacers like the Klune.

I have been running the NWF black box and 205 for 3 years and have had no problems. First 2 years i ran 640hp and 900hp through them with nitrous and not so much as a wimper. Clever thing. Might be an alternative for me. Been looking for doublers for a Dana 300.
So.. If I bolt this onto a D300 and line up on a dragstrip with my 4800lbs 440hp diesel, this will not be the weak link? My current t-case (Mitsubishi) has been the weak link and I'm trying to replace it. Dana+doubler seems to suit me.

Is it possible to get it prepared for divorced mounting towards the gearbox? I have a quite unusual gearbox, will definitly not fit.

Clever thing. Might be an alternative for me. Been looking for doublers for a Dana 300.
So.. If I bolt this onto a D300 and line up on a dragstrip with my 4800lbs 440hp diesel, this will not be the weak link? My current t-case (Mitsubishi) has been the weak link and I'm trying to replace it. Dana+doubler seems to suit me.

Is it possible to get it prepared for divorced mounting towards the gearbox? I have a quite unusual gearbox, will definitly not fit.

Please pm quote for, if possible, a divorced Black Box, fit D300 with three cable stick shifters.

It will work but you will need to move the the VSS sensor in between the Transmission and the BlackBox.

If the NP435 is out of an Early Bronco yes you will need an adapter, if it is out of a full size truck then no you wont.

The 23 Spline is stronger then the 21 Spline.

The Short version is the BlackBox-i, it only works with Dana 300, Bronco Dana 20, Atlas, and Stak.

Correct, the Blackbox will allow the D300 to be flipped.

The later version of the Bronco case is a *bit* better, but the D300 has way more aftermarket and parts support.

Basically uses the same internals as the Standard BlackBox, but instead of the output shaft of the BB sliding into the Input of the transfer case the output of the BlackBox-i is the Transfercases Input. It will only work with Dana 300, Bronco D20, Stak or Atlas II.
