Bronkzilla 07-18-2002, 12:17 AM I was there a couple of weeks ago with the WT club.. It was my last TTB trip before my SAS so i wasnt worried about f#@ing it up.. Got some sweeet air on comp hill.. (think thats what it is called) The biggest hill there.. I was airborne and the landing bent my radius arms, broke 2 ball joints, bent my ttb arms, grenaded a hub etcc etc.. Made it home though..
Heres a shot of my launch...

Old Scout 07-18-2002, 07:23 AM Looks like a cold weld was more of your problem than driving style!

ditto on that. it doesn't look like you gave it the juice on that pass. was that a recent cut and turn mod or had it been on the vehicle for an extended period of time?!?
oldjeep 07-18-2002, 07:41 AM Whoever welded that knuckle on owes you your money back.

I'll let GOAT1 respond to the heat questions. It's his rig and he did everything.

looks like it was welded with a 110 short arc.

Comp hill actually not very steep and pretty round at the top. Its just where everyone meets to race.

I thought that was table top or truck hill. but what do i know, it was my first time out there...
so what is really going on here? how did it shear an axle tube? what material was it made from?
we sheared a rear axle tube in the race truck but i don't see how you could do it in a jeep at pismo. unless it was a splice. so what is the deal ?
doesnt look like he sheared it to me, looks more like he popped the weld and knocked the knuckle off. I agree though I cant see a jeep shearing a tube

The tube didn't shear. It was suggested by some spectators that we were 15-20 feet in the air. I don't have any shots close up but the base metal riped apart not the weld. I guess the bead wasn't big enough......
what was the base material ?
hey Dave
while on the topic of Pismo I was thinking of doing a long travel kit for the tacoma (18in roughly) I was wondering if you would be interested. email me if you are. Also on Aug 2-3 there is a trip planned to goto the Hammers. Do you want to see if any of the PolyGoats want to go?

I am not :smokin:
If I get a garage next year I am going to bust out my Fj then bust out the Tacoma (I won't have money so I just need someone to pay for parts-I'll put teh lift on their truck) then start my camaro.
Your missing out:beer:
GOAT1 07-18-2002, 09:11 PM I like how people critic a weld without actually seeing the weld.
It wasn't welded with a 110 short arc, actually it was welded with a syncrowave 250. Basically the weld broke and the yoke popped off the tube, it had a pretty good size bead on it but I guess not big enough, the axle tube is 4130, didn't hurt the tube, just destroyed the axle shaft.
