What's the best sounding and performing setup to back shorty headers on a 350? I don't need cats on this 77 Chevy and was thinking about running 2 1/4" dual pipes through dual flowmaster 40 series and out the rear, would that work good or is there a better option out there? Thanks

40's are a tad loud for the street, but that is prolly why you want to run them :flipoff2:
I like 2-1/4 for the mild 350 myself. or maybe a single 3" to be different. What ever you do, dont get duals out under the rear bumper. That shit is SO over done!

Where else should I run them? I don't want to put them in front of the rear wheels becuase they'll get smashed. I could go in the rear at the corners, but I like straight out the rear best. I have a flatbed so clearance isn't a problem. What mufflers sound good but aren't too loud? Thanks

I'd run them out the back but dump them right behind the axle. I would get Flowmaster's, just not the 40's. 40's are a two chamber, so I'd look for a 3 chamber, what ever that series is.

i like flow masters but they are are a little too loud for my liking. so i run turbos. usualy hookers or dynomax. where ever you run the exhaust ends make sure you have them pointing down to the groud it makes a big difference in sound. and may keep you from seeing the red lights behind you.
also i thought i'd quite my big block with three inch down by running a cross over exhaust and unfortunatley when i 4x'd the pipes didn't want to flex and my exhaust got ruined including my headers. just FYI :D

LOUD? my 2 chambers sound sweet! well, maybe I just grew up around loud trucks and all but I don't think they are THAT loud, I hear a whole lot of trucks running those gay 3inch tips out both sides of their hitch....it sounds like CRAP and it's chrome....do we really need chrome.....anyways getting off topic......2 chambers sound nice through headers and dumped right after the muffler, IMO ofcourse.

Do I need to do an "H Pipe" with this exhaust or can I simply run dual exhausts from the headers, independant of each other? I guess I will go with Shorty headers, 2 1/4" pipes, H pipe if needed, and through Flowmasters and dumped about a foot after the mufflers. Does that sound like a good setup? thanks

If you want to run an H pipe, make part of it from Flex tubing. Otherwise, that sounds good.
