What is a good tire pressure for running the Rubicon? I am running 35/12.5/17 bfg mud terrains on crager black steel wheels with no bead locks.

Thanks

Considering you have radials and no beadlocks, I'd start at 15 psi.

Depends on how heavy your rig is. With a Samurai, you'd want to be under 10lbs. With a Suburban, you'd want to be ~20lbs.

Have you never aired down before?

I looked at a previous post and I think he has a new JK.

i run 12, its enough for the trail, and enough to get you down the road to the nearest gas station to air up once your off the trail

John, just remember that it's always easier to drop your pressure if needed than it is to increase it (unless you have an on-board air source). Also, if you drop your pressure when the tire is hot (like after driving up to the trail head), it will be a couple of psi lower the next morning when the tire is cold ;)

And then a couple psi higher as it warms up.:D

I used to run mine about 12psi never had a bead pop. when I ran them at about 8 psi I popped a couple!

I ran my dad's Rubicon with the same tire you are talking about and did 10 lbs front and rear, I would burp air a little bit every now and then, but the traction was worth it. I found 10 to work the best, 8 you had to pay attention not to shove the bead off the rim.

EDIT: When are you planning your first trip?

I run the same tires in the new KM2 design. I had the MT's before. Ran them for years. Never got much below 12 -15. 15 gives me a bit more clearance for that low slung Ford 9 I also run. :)
