Her's my problem. Last weekend, I throw a rod through the oilpan of my 94 XJ. So I need an engine. I possibly have a line on one out of a 2000. I know it is distributorless and all that, but what would be involved in making it work in my 94? Can I do away with the distributerless stuff and run a distributer? Or are there no povisions to do that? Will I have to swap the whole wire harness? The ECM is a given. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

there is no hole on the block for a distributor.

If there is a hole for one, could I take all the stuff from my old engine and swap it over. I assume I would need to swap the head and the intake as well? And I think the water pump is different. Basically what I am wondering, is if I could use the bottom end and put all my stuff on. that way I don't have to mess with the wiring, or worry about the gauges and all that.

Why not swap the whole EFI engine?...

What do you mean? My 94 is EFI. What I want to avoid is replacing the wiring harness is I could. If I could Use my distributer, head and intake and all the sensors on the 2000 block, it would make the swap a lot easier. I just don't know if it's worth doing, or should I just get a similar year engine and be done with it?
