What is the difference in weight on these motors. Also if you put a 700R4 behind the 4.3, the stock toy 5 speed behind the 22RE, and a Mustang Auto behind the 5.0 ( i think it is a c4?)

I dunno but I was suprised on how light the 5.0 really is or atleast on how little my soft springs went down with it..

I seem to recall adding that info to the tech section but I'll have to go check again..

Thanks Brandon, I would think the 5.0 is lighter than the 22RE, but I am not sure.

Well My buddy and I lifted a small block Chevy motor before, Yes we both hurt our backs, but we lifted it a few inches at least. Anyway, I would think they would be comparable here, but I could be wrong again.

2 guys can lift and manuever a 5.0,(well 2 strong guys can, maybe not 2 guys used to Toyota parts ).
The 5.0 is somewhere around 400 lbs. I can look up the stats when I get home.

Well the 5.0 is 440lbs. Anyone have the weight on a 22RE?

I lifted my 22re Long block by myself and I am not that strong also I watched a buddy lift one out of his bed by bearhugging it and throw it into a core bin at pnpull. They are definitly a lot lighter than any V8

hell yes there lighter, 4cyl. with aluminum head vs. all cast iron V-8? even with aluminum heads a 5.0 cant be picked up by two guys into the back of a truck.

I would think that a 22R would weight more than 200 & something. The bare block on mine couldn't a weighed 100#. I was easily carring my block around when it was time for rebuild. The crank, what, 40 lbs, and the head 40lbs?

These are my best guesses, lets see how close I get!

When I got my 22r the shipping company told me it weighed 450lbs. This is with all accessories, a supercharger on it and the skid it was mounted on.

According to the chart a volkswagen is 200 and most of the "L-4's" were around 300-350, I'd say a 22r or 22re is around 250-275 depending on what was on it. Maby 200 w/out the head.

I seem to recall 320lbs being weight with accessories and 450 or 460 the 302. I've weighted both before and have the notes at home if someone really needs the specs. The Dodge D-50's are surprisingly light. Somehow I was able to move one into the back of a truck by rolling it up a motorcycle ramp by myself and I'm not a weight lifter! I think I recall hurting my back a bit also...

This thread was particularly interesting.

Good link there Gordon.

Doesn't anyone know the weight of a 22R?
And how about a Suzuki 1.3L?

As to picking up engines, 400+ lbs is a lot for two guys to pick up. I used to be a junk man and I worked with a friend who is very strong. We picked up some heavy stuff, but you are limited by how high you can pick it up. I would not advise trying to lift a V8 into the back of a truck with only two people. It's just not worth hurting your back when you could get a couple more guys to help out.

Sure, how is this for a cherry picker?

But we needed to move the engine about 10' to get it where the crane could pick it up,(and the Jeep and the donor car were in the way of using the Bobcat. So I had to use my incredibly strong muscles Arnold Schwartzeneger would have been proud
Such are the difficulties of doing an engine swap, in a dirt feild, in a freinds equiptment yard. Im sure it would have killed a lesser man.

And the 2.5 liter that came out of the Jeep, can be picked up and carried like a lunchbox.
