Hey...

some of you have seen my posts about my damn carb problems...

the $44.00 Echlin rebuild kit from Napa did it.

Seems the stock gaskets were made of cork, swelling and screwing up the venturi effect in the throats.

Inclines, take off and stop jolts, angles...everything!!!

No Problems any more...

I stuck to the stock carb for my project truck right now because I had 3 used ones sitting here...I just had to made something work...

Thank God it finally does!

My carb is a dog too. I took of the vaccum pod near the valve cover which is white with black and brown ends. That helped my surging a bunch, but it is still tired.

What all was in the kit and how tough was the rebuild? $44 is nothing but I am leary because the rebuilds from Petroworks are $400  . With them being electronic carbs, what else does Petroworks do that the kit doesn't do for the extra $356?

Not Sure what Petroworks is providing???

That's the price for a whole new carb!

The only thing that the napa kit had was:
- balls for check valves
- accelerator pump
- float needle valve and seat
- "some" of the rubber O rings
- all gaskets
- "some" C clips

The problem I'm seeing in some of the extra used parts I have here is the electronic fuel mixture control. (this is the wired tube-shaped thing in the center of the carb, you can't see it unless the carb is torn down...it's the thing that clicks when you turn the ignition)
looks like sort of an expensive little gizmo...
I was lucky enough to have a working one...my other 2 did not!

But, I think the only real problem was just a general clean out with some carb cleaner and air gun.
One of my needles was clogged too

It's a pretty simple tear down.

Just take your time and take lots of pics so you can remember where everything goes!!

Actually, they told me the cost of a new carb was $800!

Thanks for the information. I think I'll give the rebuild a shot this Fall. What the heck, I got nothing to loose.

somewhat related to the dog carb, at zookimelt I meet and ran most of the weekend with guy by the name of Dave Parker he works some magic on the 1.3 carb, that is putting it mildly just damb amazing he converts your carb into a 2 barrel with all stock components he runs a 1.3 stock with his magic carb a header 2"exh through a flowmaster muffler and I thought he had something other then a stock motor when he put it to the floor that zuk moooooves if anybody is interested I can get his cell # and I think he charged around $75.00 I can definatly say I'm not putting the 1.6 in now to much trouble. but thats my 02

Well mine is an 87 and a single barrel some how he has come up with away to keep the vacum to the carb holding your large bottom butterfly open during acceleration when normaly it would start to close due to the drop in vacum Ill p/m you his # I could pobably replicate what he has done and tell the hole world but not my style he has come up with something I think unique and since its his bread and butter I leave it to him.

Thanks Man, Ill give him a call next week, I know mine is a 2 Bbl factory, but Ill see what he can do with it... I agree, if he came up with a really cool mod, let him make some $ for it right? If i send him my carb, it will be when it starts to get cold and the Zuk goes into modifications stage... Ill let everyone know though if it works out right... Hugh

I'll give it a shot over the winter too.

ROCKRAT: do you have the carb we're talk'n about?
I think they're all the same?

I'd like the number too, I have a spare engine with an extra carb in the parts Sammy someone just gave me... I'll send it off & replace the one on my Zuk when it arrives
