I just picked up my first axle project a knuckle to knuckle Dana 44 3/4 ton front axle.

I've gathered the spindles, calipers, caliper brackets, rotors, locking hubs and brake pads.

How about some rebuild kit? Do I just go to Autozone and buy new bearings, new axle seals and be done or are there other parts I need to put on?

Also does anyone have a Dana 44 diagram.

Thanks!!!

What do you mean that you'v gathered those parts? If you got the axle whole, they should all come with it.

Anyway, bearings, seals, and maybe new ball joints is what you'll need. Can be found at any parts store.

The axle was knuckle to knuckle. It was free ;)

So I gathered all those parts to make it complete.

The spindles I got have a needle bearing in it. Will a new set of bearings for the Dana 44 include those?

Thanks!!

get a Spicer BNK-1 bearing kit. THat will have the inner spindle bearings and new rubber and plastic pieces that go between the slinger on the stub shaft and the back of the spindle. THey're cheap, like 10 bucks or so. 4x4 shop should have....

Will the Spicer BNK-1 kit include all bearings and seals to rebuild or will I have to get more? Are the rubber and plastic pieces you talked about the axle seals?

Thanks again guys and if anyone knows of a D44 manual online that would be great!

No, and no

BNK-1 has what I said it has.

The plastic and rubber things go out by the splindles, not in the pumpkin. You still will need all the other bearings and the inner axle seals and pinion seal.

New question.

I went to Autozone and got rotors for 30 dollars each.

However, not thinking they did not include hubs.

So I go back down and inner hubs are 70 dollars.

Or I can get rotors w/ hubs for 170 each.

So what is the difference? How come I can get the rotor/hub seperate for 100 each compared to the 170 for them together?

Also I bought external Milemarker locking hubs so will they fit the two piece?

Thanks!!

The hub and rotor press together and the wheel studs press in to hold them together.

If they are both internal mount style or both external mount style, then the Milemarkers will fit no prob.

Who knows why they are an extra 100? Beats me....maybe the others come with bearings too? Did you ask the parts guy why?

When rebuilding anything that uses bearings, go to www.timkeninfo.com , type in your app, and wala ...complete listing of all bearings, including interchange.

Take those numbers to any good parts store or bearing supply house.
